With all of the recent talks involving the Yankees, Joe Torre, Steinbrenner, etc. etc., the Cory Lidle tragedy really puts things into perspective. When it comes right down to it, none of that stuff really matters. I thought it was strange that the Yankees were getting the most publicity even though they were knocked out of the playoffs and there were still 4 teams left. But it's even more ironic that those Yankees headlines were overshadowed by another Yankee. Sports is a great escape, both for players and for fans. But you can't do much to ignore what happened to Cory Lidle. He was a great player, and from his teammates' account a great guy all around. We obviously all hate it when something like this happens, and it certainly isn't any fun to write about. But it deserves a merit of its own, even though the Lidle story is far from glamorous or exciting.
My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the Lidle family.
