People Getting Stupider Year After Year

by Romiezzo

I realized this a while back, but it's really getting on my nerves. Everyone keeps talking about how stupid commentators and analysts are, and how they lack certain aspects, such as knowledge of the game or enthusiasm. Not only are commentators getting stupid, but everyone is, including the athletes, the reporters, just about everyone.

If anyone saw the Barry Bonds interview, you guys will know what I'm talking about. Reporters asked him the most irrelevant questions. Here is an example:

"What do have to say Greg Anderson right now?"

What do you expect him to say? "Thanks Greg. You were a lot of help for me to hit those home runs."? Barry Bonds did the right thing by skipping that question. That's one example.

Next, the players. The one that comes first to my mind is Neifi Perez. Caught 3 times using performance enhancing drugs. Did he really think he wouldn't get caught a third time?

Anyone have any more examples to share?

Watched a movie or listen to the radio in the last ten years? Everything is a remake. Creativity is dead.

How about the people who think Barry didn't take steriods and his holding the record is a good thing?

Exactly my point, she didn't kiss him... Don't blame him for trying (actually, I do) but do the math. I'm not knocking her work, but she is a dude with boobs.

"What do have to say Greg Anderson right now?". Not sure if that is a "stupid" question. The guy has been sitting in jail because he won't answer questions about Bonds. Bonds could have at least given him a "shout out". Heh heh.

Supposedly these two guys are great friends. Yeah right. Anderson sits in jail because he refuses to answer questions about Bonds. And Bonds returns the favor by allowing his "friend" rot just so he can hit a damn HR*.

Guaranteed Bonds is paying Anderson. The guy's in prison and has a year old kid at home. No question Barry is paying for silence.

Another question to Bonds: "Do you think this record is tainted?" And also, any question to an athlete/coach/executive that involves the word "think."

Exactly. No wonder why Barry is so pissed off about the media. They ask the stupidest and most irrelevant questions..

If you think these questions are "stupid" to Bonds, just wait for his cross-examination with a federal prosecutor.

that was by FAR the dumbest question I've ever heard. Much, much dumber than a asking someone how they feel after having lost a huge game. The reporter should have lost his press pass for asking it.

Well keep in mind reporters often ask these thorny questions to bring the issue up and see how Bonds (or any interviewee) responds, what would be surprising is if the inteview subject actually gave an informative answer.

I know. It's a shame. If he played in the MLB he would probably be considered the best of all time. He is credited with 962 home runs, according to one of my books, Baseball's Best 1,000. I can't believe he's listed 8th...

Gibson is the best catcher ever, no doubt. Whether it was 700 HRs, 800, 900, or 1,000.

How many homers did Gibson hit in his Negro League career? In legitimate, league games? Less than 200. The others are irrelevant, hit off semi-pro teams, college teams, so they don't count. Do you honestly believe he averaged 85 homers a year for ten or eleven years? Geez.

Wait a minute, so because black baseball wasn't as organized as white baseball back then, Gibson's ability to hit homeruns just doesn't count? Here's a question, how many homeruns did Babe Ruth hit in an itnegrated white league? 0. Does that mean those other 714 don't count?

Well Kelsdad's point was that not all of Gibson's HR's were in the Negro league (whether this is true or not I do not know). Nobody gives Babe Ruth credit for HR's he hit while "barnstorming" which sounds like what Kelsdad says Gibson is getting credit for.
