Pens Defeats Habs 5-2 In Second Preseason Game

Round two of the preseason between the Penguins and the Canadiens evened out in a 1-1 series as the Pens rallied to beat the Habs 5-2 tonight in Montreal. The scoring this evening was a fine mix for the Pens, as last year's rookie Evgeni Malkin sent one in the to the back of the net in the third period and assisted another midway through the second. The rest of the scoring though came from the core of newcomers, including Sykora and rookie prospects Kennedy, Taffe and Stone. In fact Stone made his presence known early in the contest, scoring 32 seconds in to the game on a pass from Filewich.

Backup Dany Sabourin got the start in net, stopping 21 of the 23 shots he faced, further proving games can and will be won when Fleury has the night off.

Also worth noting, prospect Tyler Kennedy spent a majority of the game in the sin bin with 19 penalty minutes, including a 10 minute misconduct, 5 minute major for fighting and two minors for elbowing and instigating.

Sidney Crosby, George Laraque, Mark Recchi and Gary Roberts did not suit up tonight. The Penguins' preseason continues Friday night in Detroit.
