Penguins Update - More bad news

Here is a post from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Penguins' goalie Fleury out up to two months, Talbot hurt too Wednesday, December 12, 2007 By Dave Molinari, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury will be out six-to-eight weeks because of a high ankle sprain, and center Maxime Talbot will be sidelined two-to-four weeks with a similiar injury.

Coach Michel Therrien said the Penguins will stick with goalies Dany Sabourin and Ty Conklin, and have no plans to make a goalie-related personnel move.

Sabourin is expected to be in goal when Ottawa visits Mellon Arena Thursday at 7:38 p.m.

This certainly changes things a bit. Previous rumors have stated that the Penguins were shopping around for a veteran goaltender. Perhaps now would be a good time to move on it. Curtis Joseph was mentioned at one point, along with Andrew Raycroft. Personally, if I had to pick, I'd choose Joseph.

Thoughts...?

Preview vs Ottawa soon to come.

Having seen Raycroft a few times, the guy is not a legit goaltender...he'd be fine for the pitt situation, but IMO he's not an NHL starter... I also know a few bruins staffers who agree with me...

I'd feel just as comfortable with him in net as I would with Conklin. When you break it down though, and IF I had to choose, I'd pick Raycroft based solely on the fact he has more NHL experience as a starter. Doesn't mean he's necessarily better so to speak, but for an interim thing I think it's best to pick the guy with exp. over the guy who has to gradually come along into his game.

The Penguins have everything they need with Dany in the net on a full time basis.

This is a "Bledsoe out, Brady in" scenario!

Trust me....

Although, I know you are being sarcastic, I think you might be onto something. I don't think he will become the started, but he is a capable backup, there really isn't an upgrade available right now in the trade market.

I really don't want to see Conklin. For the sake of Mario and everything else that is holy, please oh please don't put Conk in the net.

I think the Penguins are saying what they have to say. However, I don't think they can expect to be a true contender unless they upgrade at the position. Sabourin and Conklin essentially are two backup goaltenders, although Conklin did have a nice season in 2003 when he basically split time with and then took over for Tommy Salo.

Agreed, but I don't want Conklin in net. I'd expect a move soon, perhaps using Sydor as trade fodder for a netminder.
