This is Jimmy Clausen. In high school. Standing. Get ready to see him in college on Saturday. On his back. A lot. Clausen has been named the starter by Charlie Weis for the Irish's trip to Penn St. this weekend. Lil' Jimmy will take the field for the first time in his collegiate career at Beaver Stadium, which should be impeccably clean and extremely unwelcoming. I clearly haven't watched enough college football this season to claim a firm grasp of Penn St., Notre Dame or any team frankly.
Here's what I can deduce, though, from limited viewing and extensive reading. 1. Notre Dame is coming off its worst opening day loss in school history 2. Their offensive line looked poor to quite poor on Saturday 3. Penn St. and Anthony Morelli may not be lighting up the scoreboard, but the Lions D is nasty 4. Clausen has disappointed in the preseason and is coming off a shoulder injury All signs point to a Clausen demolition. Tom Bradley will no doubt be sending the house after Jimbo, and nothing in week one points toward that being anything but the right plan of attack. If I were a member of the Nittany Lion faithful, I'd be quite pleased with the prospects of a freshman quarterback heading to Happy Valley. Pundits have Notre Dame struggling to hit the .500 mark this season. Right now, I'm struggling to identify their first win...
