Pean's Baseball Card Timewarp: Part I
As I walked into a ShopRite near my Mom's house over the weekend, I came across the vending machine of all vending machines. This magical box had rows and rows of old sports cards packs from my youth. From about 1986-1992, I was obsessed with collecting baseball cards. I spent all the money I had every Saturday at the local store "The Drawing Board". I was not the one to save up alot to purchase one expensive card, I just bought tons and tons of packs in the hope to get what I wanted. Of course, what I wanted was highly influenced by the latest "Beckett".
Anyhoo, I came away with 3 packs of cards, for an absolute STEAL (Ok a steal 15 years ago).
1986 Topps ($1)
1990 Donruss (.85c)
1990 Upper Deck ($1.50)
I have not opened them yet, so I will be unveiling the contents of them in 3 VERY EXCITING LOCKEROOM ARTICLES! I know, I can barely stand the tension myself.
Let's Open the Topps
By the way, where do all these unopened packs come from? Sounds pretty shady to me. I have a feeling I won't be getting anything remotely good.
Ok here we go -- Ok this Topps pack seems pretty authentic, with the huge gum stain (thats GUM) on the last card. The peice of gum fell onto my desk, and instantly shattered. Maybe I'll try it later, or offer it to someone else.
Cards:
Pete Rose (Manager Card, woot!)
Wow, pretty craptastic aside from Rob Deer (who's card is pretty awesome, because he's rocking a nice stache and mullet combo). As of that card, he only had 81 career strikeouts! Anyway, as luck has it, that happened to be the last card, so it has a nice gum stain on the back. Now NO ONE will buy it on Ebay! Noooooooo!
In closing, I will give you a random "Talkin' Baseball" quote that appears on the back of Tim Laudner's card.
"The first two native Minnesotans to play for the Twins were pitchers Fred Bauer and Paul Giel in 1961".
There you have it folks, I have completely stole precious minutes of your time.
Yours truly,
