Payton Thinking About Retirement

9
Vote

The Miami Heat's Gary Payton is privately making retirement plans. The only thing keeping the 37 year old guard in the league is his desire to win a championship ring. "If it happens, it happens. I look at Charles Barkley and Dominique Wilkins. They just got in the Hall of Fame and they didn't win a championship," he said. "I can't go back and say I'm disappointed in my career, because I ain't. I don't think too many people are going to do what I did in the NBA."

Is he a Hall of Famer? Probably, but I think it's close.

Payton has lost both his offensive and defensive game. He really should retire.

Payton's biggest assest his whole career was his D and he just can't get it done anymore. Gary, we love ya, it was fun, but it is time to move on.

If Jason Kidd makes the Hall, and I think we'd all agree that he will, The Glove should be there, too. Their careers have been practically equal; Payton's is probably a little better, in fact.

During his year in Boston, Payton was a class act. It wasn't where he wanted to be, but he did the job without much complaint and helped the team's young guys develop. He'll always get bonus points in my book for his dealing with that situation like an adult.

"like an adult"?????? Payton was livid when he got traded from the Lakers to the Celtics. Payton was close to not showing up and resigning with the Lakers. Of course, Danny Ainge would not accept the trade if that occurred

I've always been a fan of GP. He no longer is "The Glove" he once was. He can probably give out one more decent year to a championship caliber team.
