Pats have rust on their armor?

Don't look now... the New England Patriots may be in trouble. Sort of like Popeye without the spinach as Bluto is beating the snot out of him or Superman after Lex Luthor gives him kryptonite. The Baltimore Ravens were the closest to beating Team Brady-Moss and they best watch themselves against the Steel Curtain next Sunday in Pittsburgh.

In order for the Pats to win, they have to do a better job on 3rd downs, 2-12, which is 16%. If this were baseball with that average, they would be sent down to Rookie league for the rest of their lives, never to see the show again. Teams like New England, with Brady and Moss and the cast of thousands have to do better than than. I will give them credit for doing what teams need to do in the Red Zone, they went 3-3, this according to the NFL website. This is not to say that Baltimore is without sin. They had the Pats on the ropes and should have gone for the kill when they had the chance. They would have been the Liberty Valence of the 2007 NFL season. Another analogy is this: when you have your foot on a rattlesnake, don't pick your foot up to see if it's still breathing!

So if New England is to beat Pittsburgh and Ben Roethlisberger in Foxboro next Sunday at 4:15 on CBS (a plug for a network and I better see a check, Jim Nance!), meltdowns like they have had the last two games are as welcome as root canals, tax audits, inlaws and the plague. They have no place on the football field. The Pats have to step it up or as Emeril Lagasse would say, "kick it up a notch!"

I think what we're seeing is that the Patriots style of play is not as successful when the weather becomes a factor. Should this be a surprise to anyone. High flying offenses rarely win in December and January. Is it just me, or have the Patriots and Colts completely switched positions? Remember when it was the Colts who put up the early season wins and stats, only to lose to a Patriots team that was built for games in December and January? I think it's the opposite now.

again, could it possibly be that both the Eagles and Ravens are two of the better pass defenses? Is that possible? Considering that you know, in 04, in the playoffs, against Pitt, he had an amazing game in the snow? And that Brady normally excels in December and January?

Good points, guys. I checked the Weather Channel's webpage and Sunday should be a decent day for football, with regard to the weather, 37 for a high, 30 for a low with mostly cloudy skies. Weather does play a role in winning and losing in the NFL. Remember when people said that Tamps Bay couldn't win in cold weather until they beat Philadelphia in the playoffs a few years ago? So, Bberg and SSreporters, you both bring up some rather interesting points.

Hey, you don't go 19-0 if you don't win the first 13...

Manny brings up a good point, kids. It's not where you start, it's where you finish and the Pats want nothing more than to make history and there are some teams left that want to make sure that doesn't happen. The Pats played like they were mortals against two teams that they could have beaten handily.

Man, they have totally played all y'all.

Everyone was bitching that they were running up the score, so they made some games close.

Now people are saying they have weaknesses and other teams will hone in on those weaknesses - Belicheck PLANTS those weaknesses as a diversion!

You are all fools!!!

Even the great teams have weaknesses, Manny. It's how the weakness is exposed.

Ok, ok... The Patriots players are not immune to Gamma Radiation. Have any Strontium 234? Oh, but they ARE immune to kryptonite...

They are to an extent, Manny. Now if New England manages to get a hold of some lead, in the form of Tom Brady connecting, it will be a long day for the Steelers. Belicheck's planting weaknesses as a diversion is nothing new, every coach does it to lull the enemy into a false sense of security. Bear Bryant, when he was with the Crimson Tide, was a master at it. Granted, they did struggle against Philly and Baltimore but came out on top. Will they run the table? Hard to say. Do I think they have a chance to win? Absolutely. As Herm Edwards once said, "We play to win the game."
