It was a massacre. Even Kevin Everett couldn't fuel the Bills. When it was all said and done the Patriots continued to dominate in prime time. John Madden may be leaving Brett Favre for Tom Brady after Brady made QB'ing look so easy even a caveman can do it. The Patriots scored TDs on their first 7 possesions and punted only once in the 4th quarter when the reserves played. Brady was 31-for-39 for 373 yards with five TD passes, four to Moss, as New England became the 10th team since 1970 to start a season 10-0.
It was the ninth time in 10 games New England won by more than 17 points and the ninth time they scored more than 34 points. That boost their season scoring average to 42.1 points a game, something unheard of even for a league thats been around for over 40 years. Indianapolis continues to be the only team that held them below 34, and for those that thought that Indy exposed the Pats, may be in for a rude awakening. As for Buffalo they were coming into this game was on a 4 game win streak, and a week after finally eclipsing the .500 mark are right back at .500 at 5-5 and are right in the thick of the wild card race.
For those who look at the score and think they are running it up, it wasn't the case, the Patriots couldn't stop scoring if they tried. The defense including Pro Bowler Aaron Schoebel was non existant, as the Patriots easily marched up and down the field uncontested. The Bills stopped one play, a early 3rd quarter TD pass to Randy Moss that would've been his 5th on the day. Aside from that Brady's 8 incompletions were simply dropped, caught out of bounds, or uncharacteristically inaccurate. Bills coach Dick Jauron had no problem with the Patriots piling it on "I have no problem with that," Jauron said "It's our job to stop it." BB even took Brady and Moss out early in the 4th quarter and punted on a 4th and inches, but some could argue that was just so P Chris Hanson could actually earn his check this week. Both Laurence Maroney and Kevin Faulk both left the game early leaving Heath Evans and 4th string back Kyle Eckel to pick up the load.
Brady now has 38 TD passes on the season, 11 shy of Peyton's record, Randy Moss has 16 TD catches, 6 shy of Jerry Rice's record. The win also give the Patriots a magic number of 1, so if Buffalo loses to Jacksonville next week, the Patriots will be entering their Sunday night game against the Eagles, AFC East Champions.
