Pats All Folks: 2008 NFL Draft Preview

No game preview this week so I decided to look ahead to April for the NFL Draft. This must suck, a potential 19-0 team with a top 5 draft pick but thanks to the 49ers the Patriots have that pick and thanks to Roger Goodell plan on using the pick. Like buying a gift for the guy who has everything it's hard to fathom who the Pats could pick up, do they pick up a dynamic playmaker like Darren McFadden or do they get a Div I-AA nobody that will become the next big thing. You never know with the Pats but here's my likely guesses at potential picks along with reasons why and reasons why not.
Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU Glenn Dorsey has dominated the line of scrimmage almost every game this year. The Patriots can't go wrong improving their defense their decrepit stop unit needs help starting up front. The Pats flaw this season has been that they been run over by RBs this season. This will definitely cease next season with Dorsey up front
Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas The Patriots may decide to pick the best player available, which is easily Darren McFadden. If they're scoring 41 points per game right now, how sick are they going to be with McFadden and Laurence Maroney rotating at running back? With AP dominating the league with a ha-ha you should've picked me first, McFadden could go as early as number 1 but if he's available Belichick will snatch him just so a team in need won't get him.
DeSean Jackson, WR, California Highly unlikely seeing that they are STACKED at WR (does Kelley Washington even play). Another case of snatchies from the hoodied one and knowing BB he might let go of Moss after next season before he demands superstar money again. This is Randy Moss of the future can you really pass this up.
Derrick Harvey, DE/OLB, Florida Finally BB has his own "Dwight Freeney". Harvey collected 11 sacks in 2006, including two against Troy Smith in the last years BCS Championship. Harvey's regarded as a better prospect than Jarvis Moss, who went No. 17 in last year's draft. He's versatile and the Pats love versatility and Tedy Bruschi could very well call it a career at the end of the season and he's whom I'm hoping for. James Laurinaitis, MLB, Ohio State James Laurinaitis is arguably the best defensive player available. While he's more of a what you see is what you get player he will definately thrive in the Pats 3-4. Definitely the 2nd best choice if Harvey is taken, not exactly a Top 5 pick but the Patriots has the clout to take him number 1 and get no questions.
Chris Long, DE, Virginia Chris Long, son of former Raider and current FOX analyst Howie Long, currently plays in the 3-4 at Virginia. He's a top-10 prospect, so this seems like a perfect fit. Rumor has him being groomed by the Jets so if the Pats pick before the Jets why not take him and slap Mangini in the face
