As a direct result of the videotaping scandel, the NFL has fined the New England Patriots $250,000 and ordered them to give up conditional draft choices in the 2008 draft
- If the Patriots make the playoffs they must relinquish their first round draft choice
- If they don't make the playoffs, they must give up their second and third round choices.
According to sources, Goodell said in a letter, "This episode represents a calculated and deliberate attempt to avoid longstanding rules designed to encourage fair play and promote honest competition on the playing field."
In addition to the team penalties, Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000. That is the NFL maximum.
