Patriots Acquire Doug Gabriel from Raiders

The New England Patriots have reportedly traded a fifth round pick to the Raiders for wide receive Doug Gabriel. The Pats have been in contentious discussions (or not at all) with former Super Bowl MVP Deion Branch who seeks to renegotiate his contract.
The Patriots have been weak at wide receiver, with Branch holding out and second round choice Chad Jackson absent with a hamstring injury. New England has resorted to four TE sets featuring Ben Watson and Daniel Graham, and has Kevin Faulk out of the backfield as another receiver.
Gabriel was battling another malcontent, Jerry Porter, for the two spot behind Randy Moss.
Presumably, the Pats acquisition of Gabriel gives Branch even less leverage, as the Patriots clearly plan on moving on, with or without Branch.
