Once again, someone comes in like the bully on the beach and tries to kick sand in the New England Patriots' face. Once again, the sand got kicked back. This time, it was the Steelers that tried to kick some sand their way and it backfired, like new Coke. Final - New England 34, Pittsburgh 13.
The Steelers tried to keep things close at 17-13 going into the intermission but New England scored a pair of touchdowns in the third and never looked back. But the key turning point in the game wasn't Tom Brady or Randy Moss. No, the key in the game this afternoon at Foxboro was the stop made by the Pats on fourth and goal early in the fourth quarter when Pittsburgh tried to run a sweep play from the New England 1 yard line. A ten-play drive that started with 3:46 to go in the third quarter and extended into the start of the final period of play went for naught when Hines Ward was stopped at the 1-yard line. Pittsburgh wound up 0-2 in the red zone, while New England was 2-4.
Who will try to be the one that could send the Patriots a message? Surely not the Jets, who got their arses handed to them by Cleveland or the lowly (which is being kind) Dolphins, who need two things: a high draft pick and the last rites. Three more games to go. Could history be made? That's why they play the games.
