Patrice Bergeron Update

by Rawbeezeitz

For those who don't know, Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins was on the receiving end of a wicked hit from the back into the boards this afternoon. He lay unconscious on the ice for several minutes before being carried off on a stretcher.

He was taken to Mass. General Hospital. Reports now say that he is conscious with a broken nose and a concussion. Most importantly, he has been able to move all of his limbs.

I will write more about this on Monday, as well as the game, which the Bruins lost 2-1. But as of right now, I'm simply overjoyed that Patrice is "okay."

Good to hear he is ok. It looked really bad when he was taken off of the ice.

I am glad to see that he is okay. I was watching the game this afternoon routing for the Flyers. As bad as the hit was I hope Randy Jones doesn't get suspended. He doesn't have a history of injuring people or is known as a hitter or fighter, he just made a bad mistake on the boards. He was very sincere in his comments after he got ejected. Again though it is great the Bergeron is okay.

Eh, The coach called it a "dirty" hit. Please, take the hit, stop crying. Glad h's OK though, never want someone to be hurt that bad, unless his name is Eric Lindros :P

Man he got rocked, good to see he's not seriously injured. Third injury related to the Flyers - are the Broad Street Bullies back?

No, but is inevitable that they regain that reputation. There's nothing wrong with being physical and tough to play against, but I feel they are getting the reputation of being dirty. But these were three completely separate incidents, only one of which was there intent to injure. I have a feeling Jones is going to get suspended, and that's totally uncalled for in my mind. But, I'm glad Bergeron is doing well.

I agree with you. I don't think that type of play makes a player dirty. Sometimes it happens. It is a penalty and it gets called. Maybe a guy sits out a game or two. Jones is a tough player who finishes his checks. Sometimes guys like that simply don't have the awareness to adjust when a player is in a prone position. The thing Jones has going against him is that he is a Flyer who, of course, have had 2 previous incidents. Someone may question how the Flyers are being taught to play the game.

I don't know what the definition of a dirty hit is. This hit was clearly from behind. It was not one of those situations where the player turned or something. It was a penalty, and I would probably have made it a 5 minute penalty and maybe even a game misconduct. I don't think there was any intent or it was the type of thing that warrants a suspension. I could understand if he got a game or two, but if I were in charge I would not do so. To the guy who said "take the hit and stop crying" you obviously know nothing about hockey.

do you have a youtube link by any chance?

two of my friends work for the bruins...one said it was really dirt (girls and hockey don't mix...heh) and the other said basically what you just said...

I think even Randy Jones (based on what i've read) felt that the hit did indeed merit a penalty, etc...but it wasn't intended to injure or be cheap...

found this

and no, I don't think it was terribly dirty...

I do think Claude Julien is being a bitch though...but I would expect similar out of a lot of coaches...

I saw it on ESPN. I understand where Julien is coming from. I would have said the same thing if it was my player. Jones has to take some heat for the hit because at this level, he should have realized that the player was in a vulnerable position.

ACtualyl considering hockey was my first love and I've been watching for years AND played the sport, yes I do. Assuming is bad kid. He went into the boards akward, it wasn't dirty, Randy Jones is NOT know for being dirty at all. Get over it.

Let me guess. You cheered when Micheal Irvin was laying ont he field motionless. You are the reason Philly fans have the reputation they do.

I shouldnt post here but I'm pressed for time these days. No I did not cheer. No I did not laugh. I cheered the hit until I realized how badly he was hurt. Was to assume things, I can seee you IQ ranges anywhere from retarded to Bush.

The hit was ugly. Randy Jones deserved to be tossed out of the game. An additional suspension of less than 5 games should also be added. Jones, however, did not have the intent to injure here. Jones simply did an ill-advised hit on PB.

This hit reminded me of the shot Kris Draper took that rearranged his face. I like the physical play and some will likely consider this a dirty shot but Bergeron made a big mistake when he put his head down. I wish Bergeron well and hope to see him back on the ice soon.

Glad to hear he's okay. One of the good young players the Bruins have.
