Passion in College Football

I miss the excitement of college football in the Washington DC region. Although I grew up here, I have roots in Alabama and grew up a fan of two teams. My father's Alma Mater Notre Dame and Auburn from my mother's beloved Alabama.
Fortunately for me, I have the time and resources to have season tickets to MY Alma Mater Auburn University. I attended the Kansas State opener on Saturday September 1st and for me, it now seems the MLB season has ended.
One has to have lived in Alabama to understand the passion of college football, esecially the rivalry between Auburn and Alabama. This has been taken to new heights with the arrival of Nick Saban. UAT or Bammer as we like to call them is now already counting their string of upcoming MNC (Mythical National Chamionships).
Following the K State game, I have browsed the Auburn and Alabama message boards. They are filled with questions about Auburn' struggle with Kansas State and Alabama's win over Western Carolina. The buzz extends to the site of Auburn's next opponent, the University of South Florida. At that site, one can not only find USF and Auburn fans, but many others as well. Alabama fans are there, Kansas State fans as well as fans of other teams throughout the country. What I have read there brings me to writing this article.
Many Auburn fans cheer for the Tigers and whoever is playing Alabama. Others cheer for Alabama every game except when they are facing Auburn. I generally have pulled for the SEC against outside conferences, but having just returned from Alabama, I'm not sure what to think.
SEC football is very competitive on the field, as well as off the field. I have often wondered which fans are the worst, Tennesee? Georgia? LSU? Alabama? Florida? I get fired up when they talk trash about my Tigers, but defend them like a brother when a conference "outsider" is critical of them. Almost like a brother.
Its all just begun. It may be a long season for my Tigers, road games at LSU, at Florida, at Arkansas, at Georgia. But as always, I think we can win 'em all. WDE
