Palmer RFC
[edit] Founding and Early Success
Organized in 1960, the Palmer College of Chiropractic Rugby Football Club (PCCRFC) dominated the college ranks for many years, winning national titles in 1971, 1973, 1978 and 1979. Now Palmer is in the Premier Club division of the Midwest Rugby Union. The club has become progressively more competitive in this division, finishing fourth in the 1995 and 2001 Final Four USA Rugby Championships.
[edit] A Great Tradition
With the spring and fall seasons, PCCRFC members are conditioned year round. The regular practices and weight-training build up the physical stamina of the 45 players. Playing more than a dozen matches a year, plus tournaments, team members must meet demands of their strength, endurance, time and discipline.
The team tours the Midwest, the U.S. and Canada to play the best competition. Proving that PCCRFC players are among the nation’s elite, three team members have been named to the prestigious American Eagles rugby team.
Our teams have taken part in several major tours including Aspen Ruggerfest, St. Louis Ruggerfest, Heart of America Tournament, Battleship Tournament, Las Vegas Invitational, Alberta Province Tour, British Columbia Tour, Saranac Lake Tournament, Minneapolis Aquatennial Tournament, Tulane Mardi Gras Rugby Tournament, Michelob Arizona Rugby Classic, Peachtree Tournament and Pebble Beach Rugby Tournament.
[edit] More than Rugby
Along with an interest in the sport, you must be dedicated to the chiropractic profession. The academic program at Palmer is rigorous and demands commitment. To enroll at Palmer, you must have certain prerequisite courses, which can be taken at nearby Scott Community College. You are allowed to participate in rugby while preparing for admission to Palmer.
Once you are a Palmer student, you will be immersed in classroom and clinic activities. The first year emphasizes basic sciences. The second focuses on diagnostic skills, philosophy and pre-clinical instruction. The final trimesters are full of supervised clinic work and practice-management training.
