Pakistan Tour of England

8

Pakistan has not lost a series in England since 1987! Good morning mates, finally the test matches have begun. Lets take a look at the injury list first. From Pakistan, Shoaib Akhtar, Rana Naved, Mohammad Asif, Younis Khan, Shoaib Malik. From England, Flintoff, Vaughan, Simon Jones, Giles. Now lets talk about the game. At tea, England are 242/3. Collingwood once again is shining against Pakistan, to make things worse, against a depleted Pakistani attack. Last time Omer Gul did some serious damage in a test match was 2.5 years ago when India toured Pakistan. He suffered a fracture after that match and only recently played against India in early 2006. Last time Mohammad Sami got couple of wickets in a single innings was during Pak tour of Kiwis in the December of 2003. I would expect alot from Razzqa in this tour due to his skills in seaming department. Kaneria as always will be an important performer for Pakistan along with Afridi who keeps the run rate in check. No Pakistani fan likes to see Imran Farhat take the crease. He is more likely to get out than Shahid Afridi or Virender Sehwag. Youhana always seems in a careless mood during the 1st test match of every series, I hope thats not the case this time. All in all, there is plenty to worry about this Pakistani side, but maybe those are ghosts of the past as Pakistan hasnt lost a test match since early 2005 in Caribbean, and more importantly hasnt lost a series in England since 1987. Thanks for reading. I will get back to my work. Will write soon again. Fahad.

Woohoo, a cricket fan! I presume you are on Pakistan's side, and you're getting tonked at the moment. If Paul Collingwood is scoring 50s against you, you know you're in trouble...

Haha. No surprises about the fielding aspect of Pakistani side. Yes, a Pakistani fan here, but more importantly...a "Cricket" fan. Yes, thats some tonking right there, but the wicket is flattening out, seems like it will settle down as a nice batting track. Collingwood has always shown that concentration and determination to score for England. Good to see him score again.

On a serious note, Razzaq has been decent. Kaneria has done well. I was worried when we lost Trescothick, Strauss quickly, and Pietersen got out soon after. After lunch, the defensive Cook and attacking Collingwood have complemented each other. I think Pakistan "won" the morning session, but England have the initiative now.

I like it that way. When the match swings from session to session and at the end of the day, the honours are shared. Keeps it exciting.

"No Pakistani fan likes to see Imran Farhat take the crease." After today's performance so far (three dropped easy catches), no Pakistani fan will like to see him in the field either.

Indeed! That reminds me of Taufeeq Umar. That guy single handedly costed us the ODI and Test series against India when they toured Pak in 2004. The ODI series was drawn 2-2 and in the final he dropped laxman 3 times, who went on to score a match winning ton.

Then in the 1st test match, Taufeeq droppsed Sehwag on 0, and 2 more times and he went on to score a triple ton!

Pakistan will be keen to bring in Younis or Malik in the next match to replace farhat., unless ofcourse he scores a lone ton...although I have a feeling he will be the only player not contributing in this match.

Definitely. Younis Khan should be in the team, and Malik would be a good Number 2 spinner. England dropped loads of catches that cost us against Sri Lanka, I think Vaas made 60-odd, and Kapugedera made a 50. (If you've never heard of him, that's my point). At the moment England are well on top, and our only problems are running each other out. Farhat needs to bat well to stay in the team.

England's day. 109 not out Collingwood, 101 not out Cook. Great platform to build on tomorrow. Cook was really jammy all day long.

England needs to go for the kill here by being positive and attacking on the 2nd day. They need to win this match, as M Asif and Y Khan will most probably be returning in the 2nd test. Not that the English are not capable of beating a full strength Pak team, but a draw or loss in this test match will only be demoralising as Pakistan hopes to strengthen its playing 11 in the 2nd test. Pakistan will obviously come out attacking in the 1st session by deploying attacking field. But in the absence of quick wickets, I would like for Pakistan to set a very defensive field and choke the run rate. If England wants to score big, either they will hit out and possibly get themselves out, or take the whole 2nd day and some part of the 3rd day to score big. That gives Pakistan an opportunity to dig in and save the match. That in turn will disappoint and annoy England.

I can't remember the exact score... it must be about 350/3. If England bats until about tea time tomorrow, we should get to 600 or so. That would give us plenty of time to get at Pakistan. I can't see us getting that far though, but 500 seems realistic. England has a history of failing to capitalise on promising opening days. We may declare at 550/_ if it puts Pakistan in, say half an hour before tea - give them two starts. That increases wicket-taking chances. I think if England have a good Day 2, England can hope to win. And Pakistan can hope it rains a lot...

Its 309/3. At that runrate, England will manage 600 if they play all day tomorrow, and also if Pak sets a very defensive field later in the afternoon when D. Kaneria and S. Afridi are bowling coupke of negative lines. Declaring at 550 still leaves Pakistan in the game, but batting all day and going above 650 should most probably wipe England's chances of loosing the match. If Pak manages around 450, they would be 200 behind which is a healthy lead for England. But beauty of this game lies in uncertainity until the last ball is bowled. England could collapse in the 1st session and be 380 all out. All in all, lets hope to have a great test match!
