Packers' Al Harris Wants a New Contract

7
Vote

The Green Bay Packers' CB Al Harris has skipped offseason workouts because he is dissatisfied with his contract. Harris missed the first two mini-camps and has refused to attend upcoming team activities. While his agent reports that Harris has missed these workouts because he is tending to a personal matter, various other reports link the veteran's absence to a contract dispute.

You'd think that Green Bay have enough cap room, after all, there is not enough strength and depth on the team to take up too much room. Since he's one of our best corners, we may as well just give him what he wants.

They didn't do that with Mike McKenzie a few years ago, even though he was our best corners at the time. They shipped him to the Saints for J.T. O'Suckivan.

True... All I'm saying is, that is what they should do. However, like you say, past experience tells us otherwise... If GB want a remote chance of getting back to the post-season, they'll need Harris, especially with Barry at G going down for the year. A month ago, I remember being confident in a decent if not spectacular defense, an attack lead by Favre that could fire up big scores on their day. But now, the team seems to be falling apart a bit.

I think Harris is pissed because they signed Woodson. I'm not sure how much Harris makes, but it is probably less than what they signed Woodson for (seven years, $52.7 million). It's really the Packers own fault for paying their No. 2 corner more money than their No. 1, unless they're planning on bumping Harris back to 2.

I'd rate Woodson a slightly better corner than Harris, but not by much. Harris is older than Woodson, so on reflection, it might be better to put Woodson as Number 1 first. It's a good way for Harris to find out whether TT & the coaches think he is Number 1 or 2 though.

Well until his agent brings it out publically, which he hasn't done, then the issue either is being dealt with or does not exist at all. There is no point in spreading rumours, and also the loss of Kevin Barry is not going to tank our season, we have an offensive line extrodanaire at the offensive coordinator spot, I have confindence in that guy with his resume
