Pac-10 Week Two Power Rankings

- USC – A bye week isn't going to knock the men of Troy off the top. Big game vs. Nebraska coming up, I've got a feeling that 'SC and Pete Carroll are going to remind the nation that the Trojans are still a force.
- Oregon – 2-0 and ranked in the top-20 is enough to earn the Ducks the #2 spot. Huge game for them on Saturday as they welcome #11 Oklahoma to Autzen. The Ducks can establish themselves as a contender with a win over Oklahoma.
- Cal – Despite the loss to Tennessee, I still believe Cal to be the third best team in the conference. Convincing win over Minnesota, with Longshore and Lynch playing well will be a huge confidence boost for the Bears. PSU comes to town this week so Cal should be 2-1 heading to ASU.
- UCLA – Took care of Rice and now sit at 2-0. Their next three games are cake walks, @ Washington, and then home games against Stanford and Arizona. The Bruins will conceivably be 3-0 in the Pac-10 heading into a week seven showdown at Oregon.
- ASU – Offense showed up in big way over Nevada, but the defense is suspect. Suddenly the Colorado game next week looks like a breeze ahead of the Cal showdown. Look for the ASU to continue to click against the Buffs and for the Sun Devils to have a lot of confidence heading to Cal.
- Washington – Stanback is an exciting quarterback, big strong and mobile but he doesn’t have enough weapons around him to win. Washington played OU tough for a half, but ultimately will be at the bottom of the conference again this year. Coach Willingham needs to improve the UW roster soon if they’re going to compete.
- Arizona – Savior Willie Tuitama has not played well and their coaching staff is kind of crazy. But they typically play with good passion and aggression, but not always with their brains. Their defense is fast and hard-hitting but their offense doesn’t really scare opposing defenses.
- Oregon State – Not as bad as they showed at Boise State when the defense played as if tackling was optional. It used to be that teams passed for big yards on the Beavs but now it looks like teams can run AND throw on the Beavs. I like Yvenson Bernard and Joe Newton, but their QB is erratic and the fan base is ready to ship the coach to coaching purgatory.
- Washington State – I’m not convinced their quarterback is a division one quarterback. Alex Brink is an Oregon kid, so naturally I root for him, but I just don’t see him as a Pac-10 quarterback. They’ve got great skill players, Bumpus and Hill, but I’m not sold on the guy throwing the ball to them.
- Stanford– Not quite as bad as UC Davis, but losing to San Jose State is bad. They can’t get anything going on the ground and they can’t stop a weak offense, so it’s going to be a long year in Stanford. At least they just built a beautiful stadium to play in.
