Overtly Ecstatic Owners...Yay or Nay

Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, was fined $250,000 for what the league deemed "misconduct" following the Mavericks' Game 5 loss to the Miami Heat. Cuban reportedly said, "!#$@ you...!#@$ you...Your league is rigged!" following the loss. Cuban denies the aforementioned statement on his blog.

This got me thinking. Surely, if any of us diehard basketball fans were to own our own team, would we be taking the Cuban approach and be vehemently screaming, clenching our fists, and throwing and punching furniture while watching our team compete? Or would we be one of many owners who just watch from afar never showing any emotion?

Personally, if my checkbook could withstand millions of dollars in fines, I would definitely be part of the crowd. I probably wouldn't throw and hit things, but I would want the fans to know how much I love my team and how much I love the sport.

To Cuban, keep on talking but never turn violent like Dirk Nowitzki did on that stationary bike.

Cuban should be like the Maloof Brothers who are very loyal fans and never get in trouble with the league.

The Maloof Brothers are active fans, yes, but they don't try and improve the game. The only reason Cuban gets in trouble is because he dares speak the truth.

The Maloofs are very visible at the games...but like DNL says, they are not as involved and sometimes I feel they're courtside just to make an appearance and market themselves. Not to mention the used car salesman vibe I get from those two everytime I see them.

Cuban annoys the hell out of me sometimes but he's cool otherwise and he's a good and passionate owner...let's not forget all the renovations to the arena and locker room for the Mavericks that I believe he initiated. Could be wrong though.

As a Green Bay Packer fan, I love it when the fans are the owners, or just one fan is the owner. Granted, none of the Packer shareholders have the sort of national voice that Cuban does, but I guarantee you they all wish they did.

I rather take an over-active owner than one who does not care about winning. I am a Phillies fan, and have seen the latter for way too many years. Give me the former any day of the week, and twice on game day.

I think Cuban cares more about getting on tv than he does about having his team win. The guy's an attention whore. He says and does stupid shit just so he can get his 15 minutes of fame.
