Ottawa vs. Anaheim in the Stanley Cup Finals

With the Ducks winning Game 6 and the Western Conference Finals over the Detroit Red Wings, the Stanley Cup Finals have been set.

Starting on Monday, Anaheim and Ottawa will face off for the biggest trophy in all of professional sports.

Here's my early thoughts on the series:

-The Goaltender matchup goes to J.S. Giguere, as he has the experience of previous Stanley Cup Finals in his resume. As for Ray Emery, he has stopped Crosby and the Sabres outstanding lineup plus beaten Martin Brodeur. Emery has played out of his mind for the Senators, but I think he's overmatched, as Giguere has proven that it's not about the overabundance of padding he had a couple years versus NJ in their Cup Final

-Key Matchup Other then Net will be if the Ducks Two Norris Trophy Candidate Defenseman in Pronger and S. Niedermayer can stop the Senators Top Line of Heatley-Spezza-Alfredsson. The Sens top trio only has 58 points this postseason and has been sensational. In their wins, their top line has been instrumental in their wins. If the Ducks have any ambitions of wins the series, they must shutdown this line. Period.

X Factor For Each Team: Anaheim: Ryan Getzlaf, the young forward who has the size and skill to dominate play Ottawa: Mike Comrie: Every team needs that second or third line player that you can count on to score points when needed. For Ottawa, it's Comrie who has the second most points among center for the Senators in the 2007 playoffs

Prediction: Anaheim wins in 7 Games, with Ducks coach Randy Carlyle able to adjust his lines perfectly to shutdown Ottawa's top line in the final Cup Clinching game in their own building. Thus, Ducks fans will celebrate a Cup Clinching victory in their own building at the Honda Center.....

Final Note: -Isn't it funny that when the Ducks drop their "Mighty" adverb from their team name, they win the West and look to win the Cup for the first time in team history. I bet the Walt Disney Company will hate that, seeing as how the current Ducks will not use the previous regimes colors, Flying V, Coach Gordon Bombay's expert leadership, Goldberg's antics in net, or that famous chant "Quack...Quack.....Quack!"

Also, if you weren't a hockey fan before Tuesday's Game 6, watch the highlights of the 3rd period. I promise that it's real good and will have you focused for Game 1 on Monday Night in Anaheim.

The Wings were the best team on paper this year. Shame really. Still, we'll be in the hunt next year. You'll see my preview with D21W later in the week. Our challenge is still tied!

If Ottawa can neutralize Anaheim's deadly power play they should win.
