Both teams came in knowing this was a crucial match. If the Senators won, the Pittsburgh Penguins would be on the brink of elimination. If Pittsburgh won, the Ottawa Senators would lose their lead and the series would be tied at 2.
The first goal was either lucky or unlucky, depending on who you're a fan of. A Jason Spezza shot was blocked with the stick by Penguin Jordan Staal. The puck took an awkard jump.....right past goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. Jordan Staal then made up for it in the 2nd period with a goal assisted by Gary Roberts and Michel Ouellet. The Pens continued to attack for the rest of the 2nd period, but Ottawa held them off. WIth under 1- minutes left, Anton Volchenkov stepped up for the Sens with a late goal. The Penguins threw everything they could at them, but with the combined efforts of the Ottawa defensemen, and Ray Emery, Ottawa kept the game 2-1 until the final buzzer.
KEY STATS:
Pittsburgh: 0-5 on Power Plays.
Ottawa: Outshot Penguins 26-24.
