Oscar Harstad
[edit] Biography
Born on May 24, 1892 in Parkland, Washington, Oscar Harstad (Oscar Theander Harstad) played for the Cleveland Indians for his entire 1 year career. Harstad broke into the bigs on April 23, 1915 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 3.40 ERA in 82 innings pitched in 1915, his rookie year. The first batter he ever faced was Ty Cobb, who singled in that at bat.
After finishing his baseball career shortly after being dealt to the Portland Beavers (of the Pacific Coast League), Harstad completed college and earned a degree in Dental Surgery. He served the community of Freewater, Oregon in that capacity for over fifty years, thereby drawing comparisons to that of Archibald "Moonlight" Graham, of "Shoeless Joe" (novel) and "Field of Dreams" (film) fame, who became a doctor after his short baseball career.
