Orlando Merced (Orlando Luis (Villanueva) Merced) was born on November 2, 1966 in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. He made his Major League debut on June 27, 1990 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1991, his rookie year, he hit .275 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI. Merced played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Toronto Blue Jays, Minnesota Twins, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, Montreal Expos and Houston Astros over the course of his 13 year career.

Most people believe that Orlando Merced's best season was 1995, when he slugged 15 home runs, hit for a .300 average and knocked in 83 runs.
