Orioles Turn To Rookie To Stop Skid

The Baltimore Orioles Manager Dave Trembley has decided to bring up Radhames Liz from Double-A Bowie to try and stop the Orioles' current four game losing streak, and five game losing streak against the Minnesota Twins. Liz is a right handed pitcher from El Seybo, Dominican Republic. ' This will be Liz's Major League dubut. Liz has been pitching for Baltimore's Double-A Bowie and doing very well.

Here is a copy of the article off the Baltimore Orioles home page, describing Liz's pitching abilities and stats while in Double-A Bowie:

Baltimore manager Dave Trembley decided to delve into the Minors, and Radhames Liz will make his first career Major League start. Liz is having a great season with Double-A Bowie, going 11-4 with a 3.22 ERA in 25 starts. The 24-year-old has also fanned 161 batters in 137 innings this year in Bowie, the highest total among Eastern League pitchers.

"The reports that I've gotten are that he's shown a lot of improvement," Trembley said Friday. "I think we're getting him at the right time because he's coming off some successful outings. ... He projects to be an interesting type pitcher in that he's a power arm."

All appears to look good in today's match up for Baltimore against Minnesota. A losing streak that needs to be haulted, their recent lack of success against the Twins, and a fresh young rookie on the mound, adding the excitement of playing in the major Leagues. Liz has pitched well in Double-A, but is he ready for the big jump to the Majors? Is this too big of a jump, skipping Triple-A and coming straight to Major League Baseball? Liz appears to have all the stuff which might make him ready for a successful MLB debut, and the Minnesota Twins will find out today how good he really is.

With the recent awakening of the Twins offense, that was so good at late inning rallies last year, and their current ability for late inning rallies now, the Minnesota Twins seem ready to face any challenge. The heart of the Twins line up is beginning to hit, and will frustrate many major league pitchers. The Twins offense will hopefully break through tonight against this very interesting and promising rookie.

Minnesota is riding a three-game win streak, a five-game win streak against Baltimore, and are looking at winning game three tonight, to assure themselves a series victory. Minnesota is in need of a nice win streak, and we still have six games with division leading Cleveland, and second place Detroit. The Twins are sitting 5.5 games back of first place, and need to win every series til the end to have any chance of winning the Central Division title and making the playoffs. A series sweep of Baltimore would be a nice start.

GO TWINS!!!!!!
