Opening up the Other Side of Professional Sports History

2
Vote

by Mlnsports There is a lot of the history of professional sports that is pretty unknown to the average sports fan. Bombarded with the hype of the major leagues, Fox, and ESPN you can miss a lot.

I've told you the story about the third major league. Beyond that are a wealth of stories, from the baseball leagues that struggled through the Great Depression to the early days of the Continental Basketball Association, where some of the greats of the NBA got the extra playing time that they needed to put a career together after college.

The Open Source Sports Directory (OSSD) was created as a public project about two years ago to catalog the histories of every player in minor league and independent sports.

From greats like the San Francisco Seals Joe Brovia, who wowed fans in the Bay Area prior to the arrival of the Giants, to Juan Alcala, a modern player trying to make his way to the major league dream, the OSSD is the wiki which tells all of their stories.

Since 2005, the OSSD was sponsored by MLN Sports and resided on our servers. Today, because of expansion of our magazine, we're happy to announce that Wikia.com is now hosting the OSSD. We're in the process of moving over several thousand players on file, but we have many, many more to bring back to the world.

This is a non-profit project that has been run since day one by volunteers. We're looking for more sports fans to help us build this massive encyclopedia of players. If you are interested email us and we'll set you up with an account to help build this exciting new Wiki!
