Opening BCS Standings

7
Vote

by user M.Smith

Just watched the unveiling of the BCS Top-10 on FOX:

1) Ohio State
2) Southern California
3) Michigan
4) Auburn
5) West Virginia
6) Florida
7) Louisville
8) Notre Dame
9) Texas
10) California

As usual, the opening BCS standings are strange at best. Top 3 seem logical, or least not too out of whack. Though USC may be a little high with how they have struggled all year to put teams away.

Auburn at #4 is a bit of a head scratcher after losing to Arkansas, even with the win over Florida. Though they are only .003 ahead of WVU.

West Virginia and Louisville are not suprising because of the low strength of schedule, but that will change as they play each other and have tougher schedules down the stretch.

Texas at #9 seems a bit severe given that they are #5 in most of the polls and they have played a decently strong schedule.

Things will sort themselves out as the top teams match up and conference chamionships thin the field. Auburn looks to have the inside track if somehow only one team goes undefeated.

One thing that seems right, at least by schedule strength (not dominance of teams) is that the top 3 are way in front of the rest of the teams.

I agree that the top three should be way ahead of everyone else. However, I also agree that the order is out of whack. USC shouldn't be number two, and the fact that the computers have OSU at number three is absurd.

I think it should be Ohio St. and Michagan 1-2. And an team with a loss in the Top 4 half way through the season? Very messed up

Texas has played largely cupcakes except for Ohio State (To whom they lost) and Oklahoma. #9 seems about right...

I take no offense, I just think it's funny that you keep talking about their cupcake schedule when Louisville and West Virginia are so far ahead of them. Yeah, they're undefeated, but against whom? The best team Louisville has played is a very bad Miami team.

And West Virginia is even worse. The only team they've played that has a winning record is Maryland. Maryland has four wins, three of which are against William and Mary, Middle Tennessee State, and Florida International. They also played I-AA Eastern Washington, who at 2-5, isn't even very good by I-AA standards. But you're talking about Texas' cupcake schedule? Give me a break.
