Open letter to Tiki Barber

Dear Tiki,

You are quite possibly the only person in New York Sports that can make me sympathize with Fredo and Tom C.  Ruining one season for your team wasn't enough?  I loved you when you played for us, I accepted your decision to walk away from the game in one piece, even if I thought you were being an attention whore by announcing it in the middle of the season the way that you did.  Now that you've transitioned to your new life as a broadcaster, and called out your old QB, and now the coach . I can see what a cancer you are. Hidden by your stats and affable personality, Tiki, you are a self obsessed jerk.  Now that you are gone from the team, just STFU.

Thanks,

Brian

Where is the love for Tiki? He did carry the Giants to a Super Bowl and several playoff appearances. Remember that when the Giants go 4-12 this year.

Wasn't he a fumble machine until TC got there?

I have never had love for Tiki. He has always hidden behind a facade created by that goofy smile. He has always rubbed me the wrong way for no apparent reason and now his true colors come to the forefront and validate my opinion...stats mean nothing when you're a jerk...look at T.O.

seriously, im sick of hearing from him. He comes across as such a freaking baby. First he says that he's planned the retirement for years, and that he wants to do broadcasting ..now its only because Coughlin was the coach? Give me a break

Ballocks.

Barber is a broadcaster now, he has experience as a player and inside information, and he's using his experience and information to do his JOB as a broadcaster. He's had a Hall-of-Fame career at a position that absolutely DESTROYS your body, and he made the choice to get out like Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, and Robert Smith, all of whom can still walk without crutches. He announced his retirement in the middle of the season, and that was a little odd. But if you really believe THAT's the reason for his team's collapse, not their Jurassic-brained coach, aging defense, or overhyped quarterback, you need to watch some more football. That team has massive problems from the top down, and has for years. You want to look for a real distraction, a real cancer with the Giants? Look at Michael Strahan, whose goofy gap-toothed smile has hidden selfish play for a decade. Holding out of training camp because you "might" retire? What the hell is that? At least Barber gave the Giants almost a year to figure out how they were going to replace him--which they didn't really do.

When the Giants win 4 or 5 games this year, don't blame Tiki. One player neither wins or loses a season in the NFL.

Yeah, I'm not sure Tiki had anything to do with all those defensive injuries (specifically Strahan) or Eli's interceptions. And I don't think Tiki made that one guy let go of Vince Young mid-sack, either.

no one is going to blame Tiki for the Giants sucking this year. we just don't want to keep hearing him complain about everything after the fact, and change his story about why he retired. Listen, no Giants fan in their right mind can say they like Coughlin, or say they have 100% confidence in Eli -- however, Tiki should just move on and be a professional instead of continually acting bitter towards his former coach and teammates.

I agree with you on the state of the team. I just have justified my dislike of him as a player (which I didn't understand y at the time cause he was such a good running back) through his "broadcaster" antics of late.

You have it wrong on your point about Tiki doing his job. He is trying to hype a book in an attempt to make more money. If he mentioned this at all after the season or this was the topic of one his broadcast, then maybe I would believe this was Tiki doing his Job.

Change "Broadcaster" to "Sports Commentator," then. I'm sure NBC has no problem whatsoever with Tiki getting press for his book.

Nice work! Tiki needs to shut his mouth. I don't think he's to blame for the Giants disappointing 2006 season, nor do I think his comments will have any impact on the team this year, but these comments are just petty ranting from shaeless attention whore. Hey Tiki, shut the hell up!!!

Why is Coughlin still coaching? He completely lost this team by the end of last year. I hate the Giants, but living in upstate NY I hear about them all the time...I don't see why he's still there.

"Last year"?? I'm pretty sure Coughlin lost the Giants somewhere in the second week of his first training camp with them.

Tiki needs to keep quite and move on. Message to Tiki: You retired. Move on and let your friends make the best of the 2007 season.

Again, I have to ask: Why? When is it appropriate for Tiki Barber to comment on the Giants? In three years? Five? Ten? Should he wait until all the players he knows have retired and all the situations he saw as a player have resolved themselves?

With or without Tiki, the Giants still aren't or weren't better than Philly or the Cowboys.
