Open Discussion: Alex Rodriguez vs. Anakin Skywalker - who wasted more talent?

This is interesting. Who said A-Rod is wasting his talent. He still has great numbers, just not the best in cluth scenarios. As for Skywalker, he did become the leader of the Imperial Empire. So I don't really think he wasted his talent either.

Anakin didn't waste his talent - he used it for evil. Let us not forget how potent he was - just ask Padame. A-Rod is anything but potent - ask his teammates. I'll say that A-Rod is the correct answer.

Someone should write an article comparing each yankee to a different star wars character. Similarities between Arod and Anakin, similarities between Jeter and Darth vader, similarities between giambi and whomever, etc. etc. etc... anyone interested?

I'd have to say ARod is the bigger waste of talent. Not because he hasn't put up great personal numbers, because he certainly has. But he hasn't helped anyone win a national championship; or even come very close, for that matter.

Anakin, on the other hand, was pivotal in establishing the Empire and in subsequently overthrowing the Empire. He may have been bested by his son, Luke, but Luke would not have escaped the Death Star and the Emperor without him. He ultimately did that great act of good and returned to the Light, where he would have stayed if Palpatine hadn't taken advantage of an idealistic kid. ARod is definitely the bigger waste of talent.

Wow,all good stuff. Since we are comparing A-Rod to Anakin/Vader, does this mean that A-Rod will help take the Yankees deep into the playoffs, only to be defeated by Carlos Guillen in the ALCS (who took over SS in Sea after A-Rod left.) Then he will somehow land in Boston in the offseason and destroy Steinbrennar on his way to leading the Red Sox to the WS like Vader destroyed Palpatine to help the Rebellion to victory?

Anakin Skywalker didn't waste his talent, he put his talent to very good use. A much more useful use of his talent than if he didn't embrace his natural inclinations. Many fear to embrace their evilness. Anakin became the second best in the career he set out to succeed in (behind the emperor). He did much more with his talent than would have been possible if he hadn't killed the Jedi council. I agree with The shark.
