The plethora of prospects traveled to Peoria, Arizona to learn from the Phoenix Coyotes coaching staff and begin the process of their future NHL careers. Blake Wheeler gives some advice to Kyle Turris, the Coyotes first round pick of 2007.
"The best thing I can tell him is go to Wisconsin and do what you can to help your team. That's all you can do. You can't go up there and try to live up to being the No. 3 (overall) pick in the draft, because that's something you can't really do." Blake Wheeler, quoted from the Arizona Republic
Turris soaked in all that he could for his first day understanding both the expectations and the commitment needed to become an NHL player.
"It's a great group of guys. I had a lot of fun out there, and learning from Wayne Gretzky . . . It was really cool. I just keep my mouth shut and take everything in and learn as much as I can
"I want to make a good first impression. I'm working my hardest and doing the best I can. It's my first camp . . . and I'm making sure I learn all the positive attributes I can."
Kyle Turris, quoteed from the Arizona Republic
The foundation for development of these young prospects got off to a great start and Turris begins his career with the right outlook.
According to head coach Wayne Gretzky, Peter Mueller and Martin Hanzal look much improved and I will not be surprised if both make the Coyotes team for next season. Hanzal is already under contract but Mueller has yet to sign.
I'm confident that the Coyotes will work diligently to finalize the contract details with Mueller in plenty of time before the season begins.
