One Hall of Fame Vote…Who gets in? Rose or Bonds?

19
Vote

by LastRow

Move over Hank, you have company…Yes, the next time Balco Bonds decides to hit another home run Bud Selig will be happy that he can resume his oh so glorious everyday life back in Milwaukee, (does that even exist?) and won’t have to give his Herculean effort following Bonds around the country like Greg Anderson. Hank Aaron can carry on that attack on Bonds that he’s been collaborating on with O.J. Simpson…See, that’s the real reason why Hank says he’s "too busy"!

For us to be on the verge of witnessing one of sports most hallowed records be surpassed, um, yeah, do we even care? Personally my answer is no! Simply due to the fact that’s what the whole *756 encompasses! Plain and simple…Cheating to get ahead! Now we all know that everybody has cheated one time in their life to get ahead. And if you say no, well either you’re a graduate of Balco Bonds University Labs or you have one sad life…Most likely you’re still wearing underoos too!

If one really ponders the closest thing this whole Bonds situation comes close to is that of the Pete Rose situation. Sure, he didn’t transform his body into the Incredible Hulk, but just as he created the game, so too is Bonds! Now given, Rose’s record is 100 percent legitimate with no tarnish what so ever, but aren’t these two individuals walking in the same shoes, really? Okay, so baseball didn’t have a steroid policy when Bonds jacked *73…Fact is, he, like Rose, has denied all the allegations surrounding him that would make Johnnie Cochran get goosebumps. We knew Rose cheated for how many years…And we know the super hero Balco Man has been drinking more than just water with his workouts!

When one looks at the numbers and puts all these guys monkey business aside…Both are deserving of being first ballot Hall of Famers. The reality is, we can’t ignore the monkey business! In Rose’s case, the truth of the matter is, for all intensive purposes…Yes, he finally admitted what we all knew, but does that get him in the Hall? Likely Not. Will Bonds follow in the foot steps of Rose and admit that he cheated the game too…In a perfect world, maybe. Will Bonds unlike Rose be speaking out front the Cooperstown doors one day giving his HOF speech? Perhaps! Although, if your life depended on this one vote, who would you vote for on this "Pick You Poison" Ballot?

Pete Rose…

Age

66

Also known as

Charlie Hustle

Latest accomplishment

Inscribing baseballs with… "I'm sorry I bet on baseball"

Worst career move

Betting on baseball and lied about it after everybody knew the truth

Barry Bonds…

Age

43

Also known as

Balco Bonds

Latest accomplishment

Stabbing Hank Aaron in the back with a needle or syringe (no preference)…Inscribed with, "I’m sorry Hank!"

Worst career move

Being the Balco spokesperson and lying about what we all see with our own eyes

Vote in LastRowSports.com new Pick’em Poll in honor of football season, which asks a very difficult question and one everybody needs to put that grapes on the table and ask themselves… "How do you like your Football Flavor?" We are referring to college or pro of course! And you thought deciding how to throw away $20 in a strip club was hard…NO PUN INTENED!

If i had to pick one, it'd be Bonds, just because apparently we have "no evidence" on him, and Pete Rose has definitve evidence against him. If there was a better case against Bonds, I'd vote Rose, since I do like Rose better than Bonds as a player and person.

Absolutely Rose. It is one of the dumbest things in sports that Pete Rose is not and cannot be in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

It seems pretty clear-cut to me (although I'll admit my team affiliation does introduce the possibility of bias). In both of these guys' case, you're considering induction into the Hall of Fame based on what they did as players. Rose's gambling, so far as anyone knows, occurred only while he managed the Reds. Bonds, on the other hand, cheated the game while he was building his HOF resume. I think Bonds had done enough to warrant getting into the Hall before that, but if you've got to pick one or the other, Rose gets in over Bonds because, as has already been stated here, Rose's record is completely legit.

I would pick Rose. he doesn't deserve it, however, his mistake occurred after his playing days ended. Unlike Bonds, he did not cheat the record book.

No "baseball" rules, just the drug laws.

True, Bonds wasn't breaking any rules. But it seems to me that the "integrity of the game" argument that Rose gets hit over the head with time and again ought to apply doubly so towards someone whose greatest baseball achievment was attained through something that is universally deemed unethical.

Chachi...you're right...i believe breaking United States law (from whatever state or federal jurisdiction) to the degree bonds did (he didn't friggin' jaywalk here) is illegal... However the merit of it not being illegal in baseball is there...

I say they both should be in. Bonds will end up the all-time leader in home runs, so until we definitely prove Bonds took steroids which we all know he did, but they haven't been able to "prove" it, he goes in. Pete Rose never did anything during his career to sully his records and as far as I'm concerned it's asinine to have a hall of fame with out your all time leader in hits. The point of baseball is to hit the ball no?

Drew's right this is tough...I'll have to go with Bonds because he hasn't been PROVEN to cheat yet (although we all have our own opinions, I think he doped)...Pete Rose is a proven cheater and jeopardized the integrity of baseball and it has been PROVEN...on that notion alone, my vote goes to Bonds

So then since nothing has been proven with Bonds, no cold hard evidence...The same can be said for McGwire. No cold hard evidence on him besides losing his voice onCapital Hill

I see that a bit differently...Bonds wasn't present on Capitol Hill sounding like Helen Keller...he's just a first-class jerk-off...to me, McGwire stamped the guilty sign on his forehead when he testified...

But that's just me...you're right about there being no cold hard evidence...

Look, maybe it's just me, but I think Bonds has been unfairly handcuffed to the steroid era, an era where many others have tested positive and an era where many others have been scrutinized...

There are hundreds of other people that took steroids and haven't hit 755 homeruns...not to defend what he allegedly did, I'm just trying to make my point

The guy Bonds hit 755 off of was one of the guys who tested positive for 'roids a few years back, so your point about Bonds not being the only one is a valid one.

Bonds without a question he has 700 and 500 steals, the next closest guy has 300 and 300, and he crossed that before the roid era

This is why I wish Bonds didn't take steroids like a lot of us, myself included, think he did. He was such a great player before his body grew at an unhealthy and suspicious rate, who knows what he would have done if he hadn't had an advantage that steroids allegedly provided him.

If everything stands as is, no one ever testifies against him, no hard evidence ever appears, Bonds will be one of the greatest mysteries in the history of sports. I can't imagine this happening, but if it does, millions of baseball fans will be left to wonder, did he or didn't he.

Another question: would he still have been a royal douchbag if not for the steroid controversy and media attention?

Yes, Bonds has always been a douche to both the media and many of his teammates, stemming all the way from his days as a Pirate.

Bonds, by far!! For one, there's "no evidence", and also because he's achieved almost everything a ballplayer CAN achieve. He's the only 500-500 baseball player, close to breaking the record, most runs scored in a career, most walks, most intentional walks, close to 3000 hits. There's no way I'm not saying Bonds doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame.

For those of you who think Rose's only "crime" was betting on baseball, and that what he did as a player should be the only determining factor, do us all a favor and read the Dowd report before commenting again. Rose's personal stooge in all this was that Giaosa guy, right? What is he in prison for? He was a drug dealer, steriods, cocaine, pills, whatever. Who was his finance man? Rose. Not only did baseball have him by the short hairs on gambling, the feds had him on drug trafficing as well. Still think he belongs?

Both guys need to be in the Hall Of Fame, but if I had to choose one, it would be Rose. At least he's acknowledged what he did, which was supposed to help him get into the Hall. While Barry's issues are all alleged, I don't see him apologizing or admitting to anything anytime soon.
