Omar's opinion on NBA Lottery Picks

Well after a crazy draft with more trades in a single day than I have ever seen before, here is my analysis for the top 13 picks in the draft.

1. Andrea Bargnani: Well, there isn't much I can honestly say about this pick, I mean I have never seen the guy play. With that said if he is as good of a shooter as everyone says he is, than his outside game could mesh very well with Chris Bosh's inside game. Throw Charlie Villanueva in the mix and now all the Raptors need is a back court. Which is why I am putting this pick down, who will play point next year? I really felt like the Raptors should have traded for a guard. Grade: C

2. LaMarcus Aldridge: Well, this guy is going to the Trailblazers where I think he should be a pretty good fit. He is not my personal favorite player as from what I saw of him in the NCAA tourney, but I could see that he had potential. Also he was the best low post player available and probably the only true center. I think it is a pretty good pick up for a team desperate for a new face. Grade: B

3. Adam Morrison: Wow, I loved this guy in college. He was so incredibly emotional, and passionate. The total opposite of Rudy Gay if you will. Also the fact that he battled type one diabetes really inspired me. This kid is special and I expect the stache to help the Bobcats score some points. He will be a good compliment to Raymond Felton, Emeka Okafor, and Gerald Wallace. So while his defense is weak I still like the pick, and you know it will draw some fans out to Charlotte. Grade: B+

4. Tyrus Thomas: I wished this kid had stayed in college, he really needed some time to develop. His offensive game is practically non existent and while his defense is good, that will not show up in the box score. I like this kid's agressiveness, athletic ability, and passion; but I feel he is a couple of years away from contributing any points. Grade: C

5. Shelden Williams: I am a Duke fan, and I love Shelden Williams, but what is Atlanta doing drafting another forward. They have so many on the roster already! I really felt like a guard should have been drafted here so that those forwards could actually get some touches. O well, atleast the Hawks have some defensive help now. But this clearly was not the smartest pick. Grade: C-

6. Brandon Roy: Well this kid is going to the traiblazers and he should fit in really nicely. Brandon Roy has a complete game and is also a great leader. The fact the he is from Washington just helps to justify this pick. This kid will be a solid contributor from day one. Grade: A

7. Randy Foye: This may have been the best pick of the night. Randy is going to the T'Wolves and I think that he will fit in perfectly over there. Whether he is a point guard or shooting guard is debatable, but the fact that he is a play maker is not. This kid will be a great combo guard like Chauncy Billups, and should help Kevin Garnett and a struggling T'Wolves team. Grade: A+

8. Rudy Gay: This kid was totaly disappoiting in college. He completely disappeared from games and played with no passion. Then again these same things were said about Charlie Villanueva, so I am going to hold back my criticism just because he is so incedibly talented. If this kid plays to potential he could be that athletic complimentary piece to Pau Gasol. Grade: B-

9. Patrick O' Bryant: When this kid put up 28 points against Aaron Gray in the NCAA tourney, everybody knew he was going to be a lottery pick. But I am not a fan of judging players after just one game. While he could fit a need for Golden State, he could also be the next Kwame Brown. We will have to see. Grade: D+

10. Saer Sene: I know people are going to get mad at me for this; but I HATE this pick. This kid hardly knows how to play. He averaged 3 points a game for some team in Europe and just because he is 7 feet tall got drafted top ten. I know Seatle needed a big man, but I would have taken Cedric Simmons over this guy anyday. Wow I really believe this was a complete waste of a top 10 pick. Grade: F

11. J.J. Reddick: I am a big Duke fan so I will try to not be biased. I think this was a pretty good pick up for the Orlando Magic. This team is on the rise and with future star Dwight Howard attracting double teams, JJ Reddick should have plenty of open looks. We all know that JJ can't play defense, but lets let him work towards fixing that. I still think this was a good pick up for a team that needed a long range game. Grade: B+

12. Hilton Armstrong: Well this pick was really a no brainer as the Hornets needed a big man, and Armstrong and there next draft choice, Cedric Simmons, were the best available. I think Armstrong can be solid, but not great, however he should help on defense right away. Grade: C+

13. Thabo Sefolosha: Once again if anyone wants to analyze this pick further they can. I know next to nothing about Sefolosha except for the fact that he is a sg who is a jack of all trades kind of player. If that is true then he should fit in with the Bulls right away as they love well rounded players.

End Notes: Well the lottery was pretty surprising to say the least, with all the trades that went on. However I was disappointed to see the Marcus Williams was not drafted in the top 13 or even top 20. This guy was the best point guard, and always produced when the game was on the line. I really felt that other than Foye, he was the best guard in the draft. So I believe, New Jersey really got a steal, and Williams will be able to carry the torch after Kidd is gone.
