Oldest NFL Player?

by user Alex Holowczak

Who is the oldest player ever to play in the NFL?

This question comes because I saw Morten Andersen kicking for the Atlanta Falcons, now aged 46.

I imagine that that is a modern record, but was there an NFL player older?

And are the only 40 year olds in the NFL today kickers? I know Jerry Rice was 41 when he retired from WR (because he couldn't be Number 1 or 2). Vinny Testaverde is about that age, does he still play? Anyone older than that?

Doug Flutie was 43 when he retired last year. The oldest player to ever play is George Blanda, who played quarterback until he was 42 and continued to kick until he was a ripe old 48.

Vinny is not currently on a roster. The Browns were talking to him about a return to Cleveland to back up Fry but nothing ever came of it.

Vinny is now on the patriots roster at the good old age of 43 and has thrown a touchdown for them which should make him the oldest qb to throw a touchdown in the NFL. Doug Flutie is the oldest qb to play in the nfl tho if Testaverde takes a snap during the playoff's he will become the oldest qb to do so being very close to the age of flutie.

The oldest QB to throw a touchdown was Steve DeBerg at age 45 when he played for the Falcons. Other current old players: Morten Andersen (47), Sean Landeta (45) Vinny Testaverde (43), John Carney (42), Jeff Feagles (40) Brett Favre is only 36.

Good job for these guys. I gotta tell you though, I am 38 and play lacrosse, and am in dire pain afterwards.Gotta give it to these old fogies. They have to be hurting bad after a game, but they still play good enough to play in the NFL with people half their age.

That's pretty impressive. Methusela was 969 years old when he completed his last touchdown pass against the Assyrian Aggies.

Loved George Blanda. A kicking quarterback? Tremendous, and he played forever (almost). Used to watch him with the Oilers when I was a kid and with the Raiders when I was grown up.

Julio Franco is intrigued and absolutely positive he could receive long snaps for field goal attempts.
