Oklahoma State Coach vs. OK Columnist WAR!!!!

OSU COACH VS. OK COLUMNIST

JOURNALISM 101

  1. 1 - MAKE SURE YOUR SOURCE IS CREDIBLE.
  1. 2 - SEE #1

This was CLEARLY violated by Jenni Carlson. Since Jenni clearly admitted in her interview that columns are “opinions” than here’s mine.

In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, go to You Tube and check out Coach Mike Gundy from Saturday. Then check out his video from Monday. The columnist (NOT REPORTER), Jenni Carlson wrote an “non-factual opinion” (though she “claims” otherwise) about the benching of one Bobby Reid. Bobby is the quarterback of the Oklahoma State University Cowboys. The head coach Mike Gundy of OSU blasted her for it after Saturday‘s VICTORY! While you’re watching it, form your own “opinion” and note your own “observations“. After all, I have.

When a columnist is writing its an opinion. Jenni clearly stated that. However, she “claims” from “sources & observations” that her article is fact - well, which is it Ms. Hypocrite? She went with her gut instincts, which is something most reporters do - she isn’t one. But in this case, it seems that she wanted to pretend to be one and her gut has been put in check. The bigger problem is her response article to the world wide media. It clearly states “cited sources“ in the article, guess what - there isn’t ONE! If she were a movie reviewer, how could I consider her opinion on a film without credible sources? Did she even watch the movie?? She would suck at that job. So why would she try to be a reporter here???

So, her opinion is written in Saturday’s paper WITHOUT credible sources and WITHOUT interviewing Bobby Reid or Coach Mike Gundy. So where did she get her info? - Oh yeah that’s right - “observations”.

So, it happens all the time in pro football. A guy has a bad game and is yanked, and who knows, might be because of “personal” reasons that he might be having issues. And for a college player, there’s the 100% chance of stress added due to all of the tests and reports that need to be done.

A college athlete is NOT a professional. Jenni’s idea that a fourth year player leans more to being a professional and should be subject to the world. WRONG! Just another “opinion” of Jenni’s. If you don’t make the money, honey, then you’re NOT a pro - you’re still an amateur NO matter how you look at it. Way to go genius!

Jenni is right though. Bobby Reid is a 21 year old man. A man. A man who can speak and talk and walk just like everyone else. So again, WHY didn’t she interview him and gets the ACTUAL facts that she was looking to write about??? Hmmm???

I wonder what Coach Mike Gundy would have said if “he was better prepared”. Those 3 minutes must have seemed to be a lifetime to every reporter in that room. If he had more material I think Jenni Carlson would be fired. I also think that it was the Senior Editor of the Oklahoman that secretly contacted Coach Gundy and asking him to “let it go”. (Just an “observation” Jenni). Jenni doesn’t want to read between the lines though, and keeps insisting for Coach Gundy to point out the ¾ that were wrong. Again, if he does, she’s out of a job. Bet the bottom line on that one folks.

In a responding interview on the Oklahoman website, Jenni can be seen with the sports editor Mike Sherman and the excuse that Jenni and the others write their “opinions” base on what they have. Jenni also keeps trying to make sure she adds “sources” into her responses. She said that she put that story together based on info they had - (not credible apparently) and needs Mike to bail her out on this one. Apparently it looks like Jenni got her hand slapped and the Oklahoman knows they’re in trouble. Why else would she need backup?

In closing, as the rest of the media and some of America are now laughing at Jenni, she will become the most infamous columnist in all of the land for at least the next week or so, then she’ll be that columnist that the coach yelled at. So Jenni, I know you have the right to free speech - keep it up & oh yeah, stick by those facts, I mean “observations” and good luck with the rest of your journalistic career.
