Okay, I am worried about the Brewers situation

Really and truly. Outside of Ryan Braun and Yovani Gallardo and potentially, Geoff Jenkins and Prince Fielder, they’re in some trouble. I don’t mean to say it as a bad thing, but there are reasons of recent concern. (And no, it’s not about Francisco Cordero on the road either.)

1. The Middle Infield.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. J.J. Hardy has been essentially useless since spring went into summer. And as for Rickie Weeks? He’s in Nashville. Depending on Tony Graffanino? Never a good decision.

2. Johnny Estrada’s Michael Barrett impression.

There was that si.com quote about how “this never happened in Atlanta.” And then there was what happened today. That just sucked. But maybe if he gets punched in the face…

3. Bill Hall.

It’s just a lost season. Unless he starts stealing bases. WTF is up with him stopping running? I mean really. He has 20 steal potential. Just saying.

4. Capuano and Suppan.

These two were supposed to be linchpins of the rotation. But after April they ( 1-8 5.26 ERA) are ( 4-7 6.03 ERA) struggling badly. And despite that, Dave Bush is rallying. But still. They need a rally.

5. Matt Wise.

I’m not unsympathetic to the whys and wherefores, but it’s as if we’re replacing him with Linebrink.

All in all, this is just sort of an awkward squad right now. Maybe the Phillies coming back into town will be key. I mean the first bad start came with the Phillies. It has a nice circularity to it.

But yeah, it is the perfect time to panic.

I knew the Brewers weren't going to hang on and no one believed me. Your points are valid but I had a different point... one reason... The team is too young to keep it up.

I love the Brewers team, and next year and the year after that and the year after that, they are going to be legit contenders, but not this year. You saw signs of their inexperience in the first half with all of those errors committed. Too many errors are committed for two reasons: Lack of self confidence or inexperience. I doubt they lacked self confidence when they looked like they were running away with the Central lead.

They'll use this year as a year to make mistakes and not play up to their potential. Then in the off-season reflect on it, and come and contend for the upcoming years.

good point..as much as i love the crew and think they can make it into the playoffs, i am not expecting them to blow everyone else away. i do realize that many of these guys are pretty new to the scene. since they are young, they have time to grow. last year was a good building/learning year, and they continued to improve this year. we cant just expect them to be the best in the world after their last season. they need time to grow, adjust, and work out the kinks.

I feel your pain -- two years ago the Orioles appeared to be running away with the AL East, boasting the best AL record at the break and sending four starters to the All-Star Game ... but youth, bad front office and a Rafeal Palmeiro positive steroid test derailed the season and squashed any hope of progress.

Hopefully, the Brewers are merely experiencing a bump on the way to progress and contention. Milwaukee's got some good young players, and this is the first I've been interested in them since Robin Yount, a young B.J. Surhoff (who I loved as an Oriole) and those inexplicable baby blue unis.

Best of luck to your guys.

Definitely agree, I doubt anyone other than Brewers fans expected them to hang on as long as they have. Definitely a good sign for the future but this team in reality isn't very good right now.

Brewers get to play a very banged up Phillies team this weekend. If they lose 2 of 3, then you should enter full panic mode.

Even if the Brewers miss out on winning the division, there's a good chance he can win the wild card. The Cubs and the Brewers have terrible schedules.

At the rate which Milwaukee has been battered, it doesn't matter if the Phillies are banged up, or if the Brewers have a terrible schedule. It comes down to making the plays and winning ballgames. The Brewers pitching has been ungodly horrific of late, the bullpen with Turnbow, Cordero and crew has imploded, and Linebrink is away with the birth of a child. As was said, when you are counting on Tony Graffanino and a kid you called up from Nashville to replace Weeks, you are in trouble. The catcher platoon of Estrada and Miller is not striking fear in anyone, and until the starters string together some decent outings, it is not going to get any better for the Beermakers.
