The Edmonton Oilers have won Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals by a final score of 4-0, and forced a Game 7 Monday night in Raleigh.

Edmonton's hometown hero, Fernando Pisani, opened up scoring early in the 2nd with his 13th goal of the playoffs, and Edmonton's first power-play goal on home ice in the Finals. Raffi Torres scored his 4th goal of playoffs later in the 2nd. Ryan Smyth added another power-play goal, his 7th of the playoffs, early in the 3rd, and Shawn Horcoff scored the Oilers 3rd power-play goal of the game, his 7th of the playoffs, late in the 3rd to cap off the scoring in the Oilers 4-0 win.

Jussi Markkanen recorded his first playoff shut-out in the win.

Edmonton out-shot the Hurricanes 34-13, with Carolina getting only 4 shots in the first 35 minutes of play.

Edmonton is looking to become the first 8-seed to win the Stanley Cup, already having become the first 8-seed to make it past the 2nd round of the playoffs, defeating top-seeded Detroit, 5-seed San Jose, and 6-seed Anaheim on the way.

The Stanley Cup Finals have gone to a Game 7 thirteen times since the 7-game format was put into action over 70 years ago, including 3 out of the last 4 finals. The home team has won 11 of the 13 times.

Monday night will be the first Game 7 for the Oilers in this years playoffs, and the 2nd for Carolina, who went to 7 games against the Buffalo Sabres in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Game 7 is Monday night at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

The Oilers have a lot of heart and pride. But they need to remember 1987. This time, the shoe is on the other foot. Canes take game 7 by a score of 3-1.

Anybody outside of Carolina with any passion for sports and an underdog will be rooting for the Oilers in game 7. This is the perfect ending to the season for the NHL after the lockout and it'll be even better if Edmonton wins.

I think the Oilers have the momentum. I counted them out after Game 4, but they have proved me - and nearly everyone else who doesn't live in Edmonton - wrong. I think the Oilers are going to pull off a 3-2 win, complete the come back, and bring the Cup back to Canada.

Take it from a Flyers fan who saw this in 1987. The Oilers have left everything they had on the ice. Being down 3-1 in a series is too much to overcome.

I'm not so sure. The 'Canes have been slowly fading since Game 3, got seriously banged up in Game 5, and not even the return of Eric Cole kept them from having their worst game so far tonight. I think they might be at a disadvantage playing in the Eastern Conference, just because they aren't as used to frequent long-distance road trips as the Oilers are playing in the West. Every time the two teams have to get on a plane and fly 4-5 hours across the continent, it has to take more of a toll on the 'Canes than on the Oilers. Game 7 will come down to who has the most left in the tank, and after tonight's game I'd say the 'Canes low-fuel warning light has to be blinking like mad.

I agree. It's rare that a team comes back from 3-1, but not so rare that it might not happen. One game left, and the Oil definently has the momentum. If Carolina plays the way they did tonight, they are done for. Every shot was being blocked, every player was getting checked on every shift. Carolina was getting killed in every aspect of the game.

Also it's time to start thinking about Conn Smythe candidates. If Carolina wins, I'd give it to either Cam Ward or Rod Brind'Amour. If it's Edmonton, Chris Pronger and Fernando Pisani are probably the leading candidates (and maybe Michael Peca too). Actually you could even make a case for Ward winning the Conn Smythe even if the Oilers win the Cup (a la J.S. Giguere in 2003).

Pisani wins it if Edmonton wins, Ward wins it if Carolina wins. There aren't any other players on either team that have contributed as much to their teams as these two guys have during these playoffs.
