11/23 - How much farther can the Panthers fall? This Sunday should give a good gauge of exactly how low it will go for this team when the New Orleans Saints come into Charlotte for an NFC South face off.
Carolina's history against this team dates back to their start of play in the NFL in 1995. Since then the Panthers have held a slight edge in head to head games; 14-11, with most of those victories coming in the city on the Bayou. Niether of these clubs have looked all that impressive this year, but they are trying to scratch out a win in order to try and maintain pace with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Carolina desperately needs this win as they face a much tougher schedule from here on out. They need to build continuity and commraderie if this club looks to play a 17th game. On Wednesday Coach Fox made the decision to go with Vinny Testaverde behind center which really does give them the best chance to win. Steve Smith should also be healthy, so that can't hurt. What does hurt is that the Carolina Special Teams and Defense has not done much to help compensate for the struggles on offense this year. The last meeting between these two teams (October 7th) was decided only by a last minute field goal by John Kasay. Since then the Saints have won 4 of 6 and find themselves in a hunt for the NFC South (slim hope is still hope).
Stats may be for losers, but there is one stat no one can ignore, and that's wins and loses. I will be praying for a won for the boys in Black and Silver this Sunday.
