Oh, It's Good to be a Yankee Fan.

Well, as Joe Torre stated, "If you're constantly looking in your rear view mirror, you're bound to hit something in front of you." After yet another successful series against the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees climbed to within four and a half games of their Massachusetts foes and two and a half games in front of the Detroit Tigers. The dwelling didn't stop last night, as the Red Sox have just lost their opening game versus the Toronto Blue Jays, as the Yankees cruised past the Baltimore Orioles tonight (as Derek Jeter climbed to the fourth all time hits leader with 2,337 just in front of Bernie Williams).
Just three months ago, the men in pinstripes were 14.5 games down in the standings, the pain in my chest was a feeling of apprehensiveness that I have not felt since the 2004 American League Championship Series, and the feelings were mutually reciprocated throughout the Yankee fanbase.
Another bizarre event occured: the Red Sox nation had stormed back from the closet. As Jim Caple stated in a recent ESPN.com Page 2 article, "It seems to me Red Sox Nation only exists when the team is winning, like a country that only shows up on U.S. State Department radar when oil is discovered. Wherever Red Sox Nation is, I just wish Bush would invade it." Certainly, their third place finish from last year has been forgotten.
So with just two weeks to go in the season, it feels good to watch a game with a nice cup of hot Joba from Shelley Duncan Donuts. The Yankees are back, somewhere in this world exists a person who goes by the name of Carl Pavano, and the delicious smell of the post season is right around the corner. Mmmm, how good it feels.
