Official: Texans to Draft Mario Williams

14
Vote

Reporter Rachel Nichols of ESPN is reporting the Texans and DE Mario Williams have agreed on a contract having him as the #1 pick of the 2006 draft. Bush will not be the #1 pick. The deal is 6 years for $54 million.

Huge news here, but it makes sense. They already have a solid back in Davis and need defense badly. This leaves the Saints to take him, but they locked up McAllister for a lot of money. The Titans need a QB whether Bush is still available or not. If I were the Jets I'd be looking to trade up and grab Bush, despite the fact that there's an outside chance of getting him at #4. I would consider trading up as well for the 49ers. Bush would make them relevant again.

If Bush falls to #4, that would be...only one word to describe that.....REDONKULOUS! I'm sure the Jets would still muck it up, like forget to pick in time or something..didn't the Vikings do that once?

No, this does not make sense. I don't care if you already have a good back, you take a better one if the opportunity arises. You call Davis a solid back, and for good reason. That's about all that can be said about him. He is never going to be the kind of back that Reggie Bush has the potential to be. I thought they were stupid, particularly from a PR standpoint, to pass on Vince Young. But this just totally blows my mind. Next stupid move will be when New Orleans drafts him instead of trading down for him. They do already have a great back in Deuce McAllister. It'll be interesting to see if New Orleans makes a move.

A great RB doesn't make a team great. Check out Barry or Marhshall Faulk (in Indy) or Gale Sayers first few years. And Dom Davis is arguably as good as McAllister at this point.

The mistake the Texas are making, though, is that what they need is a guy who improves their already-existing talent. That man is D'Brickshaw Ferguson.

I think The Texans take their LT in the 2nd rd in Eric Winston. This is mildly surprising only because Ferguson makes more sense than Williams. But if Williams ends up being Peppers. and Bush ends up being a glorified Tiki Barber, will anyone look back and bach the Texans? As for N.O., They drafted Deuce when they had Ricky so anything is possible!

Yes, but taking Deuce at that point made more sense. Ricky had had some injury problems, and had not produced the way they hoped he would. And, even though they spent an ENTIRE draft on Ricky, Deuce ended up being their man. No point now in drafting a guy when you have a proven NFL back.

DNL, once again you're ahead of the curve. When drafting, teams typically either take the best player available or a player that fills a need. Bush is obviously the best player available, but short of taking him, fill a need. The Texans pass rush was not that bad last year; their opponents' pass rush, though, was really good, because Houston's O-line sucked hard. So why take a pass-rushing DE over the best player available? If you wanted to fill a need (and David Carr would say that it's a really big need, having been sacked approximately 1.2 million times in his career), take D'Brickshaw with the top pick. Sure, he's not the best available talent, but neither is Williams. Frankly, this choice makes very little sense.

This is mind boggling! How can you pass up on a player that comes around once a decade for some help on your pass rush? Defense wins championships no doubt, but you still have to put some points on the board and Reggie Bush = Touchdowns. I realize he has yet to step on an NFL field, but his potential is unmatched in this draft or the last eight drafts. Unbelievable! My condolences to all those Texans fans out there..
