Odd injury by Brewers pitcher Matt Wise

by user Demonboy

I'm sure that some of you have heard about the Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Matt Wise's injury by now... for those of you who haven't, here's the reason why he hasn't pitched...

Apparently, Matt cut himself somehow on salad tongs..... yes people you read that right - SALAD TONGS!!! Now why hasn't he pitched because of this? Well - he cut himself on the middle finger of his pitching hand. His go-to pitch, the changeup, comes off of the middle finger. Since when were salad tongs concidered a dangerous weapon?

Can you imagine the conversation in the clubhouse when Wise went to Ned Yost on why he couldn't pitch & why Yost has to revamp the bullpen for a few days.

This just adds to the list of injuries that only basball players can get.

  • There's the infamous Sammy Sosa strained back on a sneeze.
  • Mike Remlinger's broken bones on a recliner.
  • Last years rookie sensation Clint Barmes broken collar bone when he fell carrying deer meet.
  • Wasn't it Jeff Kent that broke a bone while washing his car?

I'm sure that I'm missing a few - this is just a short list off the top of my head. Why is it that it's only baseball players that do these wierd injuries? They are definately in a league of thier own!

Adam Eaton - stabbed himself opening a DVD, was it Jesse Orosco? - sliced his hand gardening during the playoffs in '86 or '88 and who was the dude who strained his eyelid sleeping in the clubhouse?

It wasn't Orosco. It was Ojeda I believe.

FootballOutsiders give a "Just Choppin' Wood" award to the oddest injury. Some punter was chopping wood and clipped himself in the leg.

And of course, one of the Brothers Grammatic ripped an Achilles by jumping too hard in a post-FG celebration.

I believe it was Chris Hanson of the Jags, but I might be wrong.

No, it was a grammitica for the cardinals. Worst part was, the FG wasn't even that important...

That's Martin Gramatica, who the Patriots recently picked up. Note that they also drafted a kicker in the fourth round.

Didn't Brian Griese say he tripped over his dog? I guess that dog shouldn't have been drinking so much...

Not sporting, but in a press release at the start of the year, 2005 saw 8 injuries, including 2 fatal, relating to tea cosies. An English rugby player (I forget who) sprained his back whilst reaching forward for the TV remote.

How about Steve Everitt breaking his foot while "jogging" around on a high school football track. (or at least, that was the story told to the public).

F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya missed two Grands Prix whilst bending down to pick up a tennis ball (he was playing tennis for fitness). Although it was later rumoured that he actually fell off a Motocross bike.

Not as big as an achilles, but a few weeks ago Jeff Cirillo hit a deep fly ball that was caught at the wall. He threw his helmet down and jumped in the air in frustration. Naturally, he landed on his helmet and injured his foot. He was only out for a couple days though.
