- Mario Lemieux of the Pittsburgh Penguins scored his 14th career hat trick by beating the Philadelphia Flyers' goaltender Ron Hextall.

- The infamous "Grady Little" game in the ALCS. Little leaves Pedro Martinez in too long, Pedro surrenders an 8th inning lead, Tim Wakefield comes in in relief, and Aaron Boone goes deep in the 12th to lead the New York Yankees over the Boston Red Sox into the World Series. The Florida Marlins would ultimately upset the Bombers in the Fall Classic.
