For the second night in a row, Vladimir Guerrero smacked a home run, but this time it contributed to an Angels victory. Solid pitching by fill-in Dustin Moseley and the Angels bullpen brought about a rare 3 run game in this battle of AL West contenders.

Dustin Moseley, in the fifth starter's role while Jered Weaver and Bartolo Colon are recovering on the DL, pitched a strong 6 innings, for the Angels, allowing 1 run on 5 hits. More importantly, he walked none of the Athletics he faced while striking out 4. By neutralizing the OBP of Oakland, he easily put himself and the Angels in a position to win the game. Relievers Speier and Shields pitched the 7th and 8th giving up another run on a wild pitch by Shields, while KRod redeemed himself after last night's loss by getting through the 9th for the save.
Joe Kennedy (0-1, 1.50) pitched well for the Athletics (6 innings, 2 runs, 1 earned, 2K), but it was not enough as his bullpen let him down in the 7th. Jay Witasick came in and proceeded to give up a single to Maicer Izturis and a walk to Gary Matthews Jr., but while he got the next batter, Vlad took a 1-1 breaking ball into the rocks in left center field.
Other significant efforts by Angels included Howie Kendrick who lead off the 4th with a home run to left and Gary Matthews and Maicer Izturis who both went 2-3 with doubles.
The Athletics had doubles by Piazza, Chavez, Buck, and Melhuse, but could only throw 2 runs up on the board.
So with the series tied 1-1, these two teams play the third game Saturday at 7:05 PT.
