Once again, the Angels and Athletics battled in a one-run game that featured excellent pitching on both sides. On Sunday, however, it was the Athletics pitching that dominated and came out ahead. Joe Blanton (1-0) and four relievers out dueled Kelvim Escobar (1-1) and the Angels to win 2-1.

The Athletics and Blanton, finally found a way to keep Vladimir Guerrero contained as he went 0-4 and left 2 on base, and with that, stifled the Angel offense.
The Athletics struck first in the 3rd, as Shannon Stewart hit a double that scored Jason Kendall. In the fourth, they added insurance when Nick Swisher drove in Piazza.
The Angels tried to come back in the sixth as Garret Anderson led off with a single and reached third on a double by Casey Kotchman. He came home on a fielders choice by Maicer Izturis.
Offensive highlights for the Athletics included Jason Kendall who went 2-5 with a run, Eric Chavez who went 2-4, and Mike Piazza who went 3-4 with a run. For the Angels, Casey Kotchman went 2-4 and Maicer Izturis went 2-3 with and RBI and a walk on the night.
Up Next, the Angels head out on a 9 game road trip against Cleveland, Boston and Oakland, while the Athletics have their home opener against the White Sox.
