OREGON STATE UPSETS USC!!!!!!!!!

Oregon State upsets the mighty Trojans.
Oregon State upsets the mighty Trojans.

The unranked Oregon State Beavers have just upset the Number 3 ranked USC Trojans 33-31.

Oregon State charged out to a 16-10 halftime lead and a 33-10 third-quarter lead. However, the Trojans made a heroic comeback during the last quarter and a half, ending with a Steve Smith touchdown with 3 seconds remaining. USC attempted the 2-point conversion, but John David Booty's pass was batted, falling harmlesly to the ground. The loss ended USC's 27 game Pac 10 winning streak and knocked them from the ranks of the unbeaten. The Pac-10 streak was a conference record.

Smith ended up with 12 catches for a career-high 258 yards and two touchdowns. Booty threw for 406, three touchdowns, and one pick in a losing effort. The Trojans were killed by three fumbles lost, each of which led to field goals by Alexis Serna.

Oregon State's Sammie Stroughter was the player of the game, with 8 catches for 127 yards in addition to a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter. Clinton Polk ran for 100 yards, and Matt Moore added 262 through the air.

Oregon State is now 5-3, just one win away from bowl eligibility. They'll face Arizona State next week.

USC fell to 6-1 and will likely take a huge step back in the BCS rankings. They face a winless Stanford team next week.

This will make the fight for the second spot in the national title game really juicy. It'll probably be the winner of Ohio State and Michigan, but who else? West Virginia, perhaps? Louisville? Exciting...

Today brought a phrase no college football fan would ever expect to hear: "USC loses, while Temple wins."

To tell you the truth this result didn't really surprise me. USC hadn't looked very good for the past few weeks and OSU finally knocked them off.

I think a lot of people felt like it was only a matter of time for USC, but to lose to OSU is awfully bad. This is big news for Texas, who needs, more than a lot of other teams in the championship hunt, for the teams ahead of them to have bad losses.

I don't think Texas is even a consideration this year. Extremely overrated conference.

I think the National Championship game will be the winner of Ohio State vs Michigan playing the winner of West Virginia vs Louisville. In other words, Ohio State vs. West Virginia :-)

No Louisville? Maybe picking them to be #1 wasn't so bad.

more like the National Championship game is being played in two weeks in the Big Ten Championship game. Michigan wins against OSU in the Big 10 title game, and then again over OSU in the BCS Bowl
