OFD's Weekly Bashing of the Lions

After todays loss to the New York Giants, it's time for my weekly ripping of the Detroit Lions. The Lions now have a chance to go from 6-2 to 6-5 in a week in a half, pending on the result Thanksgiving game against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday. Well, my stepdad told me not to get too carried away on the Lions early success. I'm only 16 so I haven't gotten a chance to suffer through years of heartbreak like he has. He's like 50 something and he's been watching the Lions all of his life. When I hear his stories about the Lions franchise, I'm thankful for only being 16 and not having to see the seasons he has suffered through. Lucky me, huh?
I look at it like this...at least we didn't rush for negative yardage
today. We managed to get 25 yards. MAJOR improvement, right?
Sure, anything is better than -18.
at the right times, especially at the end of the game. Detroit scored with a Jon Kitna deep ball to WR Calvin Johnson in the late segments of the 4th quarter. Johnson leaped in the air and snagged the ball from double coverage in the end zone, showing his strength and jumping ability.
After scoring, the Detroit defense forced the Giants to give the ball back with about 3 minutes left on the clock. On 2nd down in Giants territory, Kitna must have had the thought that WR Shaun McDonald had the same ability as Calvin Johnson. So Kitna launches a bomb to the end zone to McDonald, only to have it picked off. Just for the record, McDonald is about my height at 5'10 and Johnson is 6'5. So Kitna's thought process must have been screwed up to think that the midget in McDonald would make an effort to take the ball away from double coverage.
Didn't happen.
Next thing you know, the Lions defense comes up big again and forces a three and out from the Giants with about a minute in a half left in the game. Detroit gets the ball back and they manage to get back in Giants territory. Then Kitna throws a bullet to McDonald, which goes right through his hands and into the hands of a Giants defender.
Kitna did the thing he was best at doing though. He loves playing hot potato with the football. As soon as the defense gets the ball for him, he likes to give it back on a count of his 3 interceptions.
Now I'm looking forward to this game against the Green Bay Packers
coming up on Thanksgiving. I will be with my family, and we will be in
front of the TV. We could be looking forward to another loss, but with
the inconsistency of the Lions, you could possibly expect a win against
their division rivals, who by the way are 9-1.
The upcoming schedule will not favor the Lions to make it into the
playoffs. They still have to play the San Diego Chargers, Green
Bay, twice, and the Dallas Cowboys. The Kitna 10 game win meter has
been put on hold two weeks straight. Is Kitna's prediction in jeporady? Only time will tell.
Until next game, or the next Lions win, this is Oneflydude's weekly bashing of the Lions.
