Ronnie O'Sullivan walked out of his UK Championship Quarter Final against Stephen Hendry today in dramatic fashion. In their 17 frame match, Hendry took a 4-0 lead into the mid-session interval. O'Sullivan won Frame 5, but missed a red on a 24 break in the next.
At which point, he walked up to Hendry and shook his hand.
O'Sullivan gave no reason for his departure, other than "he had had enough", and even his legal team were stunned.
O'Sullivan is a double World Champion, and is ambidextrous. He is the greatest natural talent the game has ever seen. He holds the World Record for the fastest 147 maximum break, which he set in 1997, at 5 minutes and 20 seconds.
John Parrott, 1991 World Champion and TV Pundit questioned whether O'Sullivan will ever return to the game. Ronnie was going to retire after the 2005 World Championship, but continued on.
It would be a shame to see such a great natural talent end his career, when only in his early 30s.
By contrast, Steve Davis is 48, and is still in the top 16 ranked players in the world, and is also in the Quarter Finals of the UK Championship.
Hendry was awarded a 9-1 win, and will play either long time rival Steve Davis in the Semi Finals, or the current World Champion Graeme Dott.
