O'Brien O'Brien O'Brien...these are important sports values applied to OSU

While I hate to give any more credibility to the debate, no matter what side of the fence you fall on, I do have a few key statements to make about the Gundy press conference from the Oklahoma State game this past week. I have been trying to decide what is more important to talk about, the coach, the reporter, the player? I was really unsure until today. I truly believe that what we need to discuss is the "position".
Quarterback is a position of great scrutiny, no player from HS to college or pro is ever let off the hook, and that has simply been that way since we started throwing the pigskin around...but that is why we love that player the most. We love that player, and hate them, because they are our leaders on the field, and more often than not they wind up to be our leaders in personal and professional life. They have the "X" factor.
This is really the only point that I find to be so significant out of this entire fiasco; Bobby Reid is more likely than not to never get into the NFL, nor will he go on to be a great retired color analyst for ABC or ESPN...what he will go on to do is become even more of a leader than he is now. You see, when you are faced with adversity, have your spirit challenged, pulled from the game and still stick around and compete at practice and attend your classes, you have your head screwed on straight.
Bobby Reid will most definitely not win The O'Brien this season, but he will more than likely go on to pursue a career that is O'Brienesque. He is certainly going to learn from this situation that a man has to hold his head up high and take his punches directly on the chin, which he has done, what he will learn next is that those punches and those criticisms will allow him to be an effective leader in the future. A leader that understands you don't need to berate or belittle those around you, but one who most have compassion and competition be the two things that guide him.
My hats off to Bobby Reid, if there was an O'Brien for standing tall and facing adversity with great character and leadership, it would go to him.
