Numb...

If you had told me yesterday afternoon that we’d lose to a Denver Nuggets squad missing the services of Kenyon Martin, Marcus Camby, and Carmelo Anthony I would have lost my mind but a sense of numbness is now starting to sink in. Toronto Raptors fans have been quick to point out that we shouldn’t try to lose games but at the same time there’s no point getting worked up over losses anymore because the more losses we occur the better chance we have of winning the lottery this summer. Why get excited about over ping pong balls in a Draft lottery? Because in the grand scheme of things the total number of wins and losses any team has in any given season doesn’t matter if they don’t win a Championship. It’s clear that we aren’t even a playoff team so there’s not point getting worked up over losses at this point of the season.
Along those lines, I want to vent about the treatment that Raptors player were exposed to following the game. As the Raptors left the court tonight they were treated to a chorus of boos from the hometown faithful and I’m wondering why fans felt the need to boo our players. It would be one thing if the players were dogging it but it’s clear that the team gets just as depressed over these losses as the fans do. We have a team of young and inexperienced players who just aren’t ready to compete with the big boys - that’s not a reason to boo them. They play the game with heart and leave it all on the court, what more can Raptors fans ask for?
There’s not much more to say than last night the Raptors lost to a better team. I could sit here and fire off a bunch of excuses or I could moan and complain about yet another loss but the boys played hard but they just didn’t have enough gas left in the tank to pull out the win.
