Now THAT is Embarrassing

by SSreporters

The greatest time of the year in sports, and Michigan utterly messed up in their own stadium. It could be against Iowa or Wisconsin but.......

APPALACHIAN STATE??!

I ain't kidding. 34-32 is your final at Michigan Stadium in what is the biggest upset in college football history. For a school that isn't even in Division 1-A football, the Mountaineers looked terrific in what was supposed to be a walkover. As for Michigan, this is just embarrassing. The worst part, is that they had a chance to win the game, but the field goal was blocked. So there you go, 34-32 is the final score, and for the fans of Michigan.......anyone up for a game of Russian Roulette?

Performance of the day that went to waste:

Mike Hart, RB, Michigan. Over 100 yards and 3 TD's, including what was supposed to be the game winner.

Goat of the day:

Just about everyone who played for Michigan.

What will happen to Lloyd Carr at season's end? Will he be fired due to his lack of bowl success and now this?

Good point. They need a lot of help, and Carr is not it for them.

They'll be fine, unless they get 2 wins this year, I don't see why Michigan should fire Carr.

Lloyd Carr has one National Title, five Big-Ten titles (some splits), one Rose Bowl Victory and an Orange Bowl victory.

He's never finished worse than fourth in the Big-Ten and that was during his second year with the Wolverines. He has six 10-win seasons in 12 seasons. Only once during his tenure has his team not finished the season ranked in the Top 25.

This man's accomplishments are endless.... http://mgobl...ent_id=15329

I agree the loss is embarrassing, but I don't think he should be fired after the career he has had at Ann Arbor.

At this point in time, I don't think Carr should get the sack, but if Michigan loses to Ohio State and fails to win their bowl game, then he is definitely on the chopping block. As SS Reporters has already pointed out, Chad Henne and Mike Hart have never beat the Buckeyes nor have they won a bowl game. Those are big holes on the resume,

Bye Bye Lloyd Carr. The University is embarrassed, and unfortunately someone has to pay for it. That's just the way it goes.

Maybe Michigan should open next year in the big house against Mount Union. Then they can lose to a quality D3 team.

I'm still in shock. I can't believe it. I'm close to declaring the end of my fanship of Michigan, and I'm not just saying that. I'm headed to college soon anyway and unless they get a new coach or something, I can't take it anymore.

How humiliating!

You schedule preseason home games against Appalachian State for one reason- lookig good, running up the score and hitting the ground running in the new season.

You'd better be sure you're good enough to beat your preseason cupcake opponents!

As an alumnus, this was absolutely sickening.

I think that Carr was going to retire after this season anyway. He's in his 60's. He always said that he didn't want to be Joe Paterno. The nucleus of the current team is leaving after this season. It makes sense.

As far as whether Carr has been great or not for Michigan, I don't think that he really has. It's easy to look at his overall record and praise him. But, masked by those numbers are some pretty poor performances. Carr is known around the Big Ten as the coach that gets the least for the amount of talent he has at his disposal.

Basically, it comes down to the Michigan-Ohio State game. I'm not sure that the dynamic of that game can really be felt by a neutral. But, and I think the same is true for OSU, we would rather have Michigan go 9-3 and beat Ohio State than go 11-1 and lose that game. We always lose bowl games. That is almost a given. It is the Ohio State games that really get under the skin of the fans, and that is why Carr is feeling the heat.

Kirk Herbstreit and Brent Musburger repeatedly mispronounced "Appalachian" State during the Cal v. Tennessee game. You can pronounce the east coast mountain range however you would like, but the college located in Boone, North Carolina is pronounced "App a LATCH an State," not "App a LAY shun State." Impress your friends with the proper pronunciation.

Well, I go to Clemson and mispronouncing the name is endless. A lot of announcers pronounce it "Clemzzzzzzon." It is supposed to be pronounced like this: "Clempson". You'd think they would be able to get it right. It's like nails on a chalkboard.

Um, no. If you are going to lose, this is the time to do it. They still have all season to climb their way back up when everyone else loses later in the season. That's the brilliance/idiocy of the polls. Mind you, I'm not saying they will, just that they could.

Um - no. There is no way Michigan will get a crack at the title this year. If there ends up to be no undefeated teams this year, and Michigan is one of two 1-loss teams at the end of the year, Big Blue will be passed over for the best 2-loss team for the BCS Championship, based sloely on this horrific, embarassing loss. You lose to a Div IAA oppenent in your own house, you forfeit any opportunity to play for a championship. Period.

Well that was incredibly embarrassing and the truth is we didnt even look like a top 25 team. I will never give up my fanship i mean do u think Tom Brady will stop telling people he went to Michigan just because they lost one game???? Yes this is incredibly embarrassing but those calling for Lloyd Carr's head remember what he's done for us. During the late 90's and early 00's Michigan was one of the toughest team to beat under Carr. He's won 76% percent of his games as head coach one national title, 5 conference titles. Oh and ever heard of a guy named Tom Brady? Yeah well Carr recruited him and started him for 3 years. I agree that Carr should probably go after this season I mean he is still living in the 90's with his coaching styles. But I mean Lloyd Carr has been great for Michigan as a whole unfortunately he seems to be running out. But Michigan fans shouldn't hate him sooooo much when hes done alot for our program.

Agreed it's ONE game. Sure, it was against a team that wasn't even a D1 team, and I appreciate people who are straightforward and say: OK, Michigan lost the game, so let's move on. You can't forget what Lloyd Carr has done with the teams; he is one of the best active college coaches in the game, IMO. We should think about what he's done for Michigan throughout his whole career. It's not like the Bill Buckner error in '86, but it was a tough loss. So, just suck it up, play the rest of the games, and see what happens.

Carr nevr started Brady for three years. Are you clueless? You handled that situation in the worst way. He ran a two quarterback system with Brady and Drew Hansen. He actually played Drew Hansen more than Brady. What the heck?
