Notre Dame football isn't second rate

I take back what I said about Notre Dame football being second rate, because they only wish that to be the case. If they were second rate, they might have more than one win, and might at least be competitive against the service academies, which they aren't anymore. So far this season, the Fighting Irish faithful are holding on to the one win over UCLA as if it will save their season. But, the plight of Notre Dame is well known, no need for rehashing that. I would, however, like to take a look back at some comments that plastered me when I unfairly called Notre Dame second rate. And once again, I apologize for it, because I overrated them.

Richard believes I didn't do any research on the ND football program:

> You're an idiot and you know little to nothing about the situation at Notre Dame. Do some research, hack.

And just because I stated the obvious about Notre Dame sucking, an Anonymous source claims I'm the enemy.

> You must be a Trojenz fan.

And then there was that fateful article on how Lou Holtz is insane. And let me reiterate something: He is insane. Come on Notre Dame fans, you can't tell me that you watched his pep talks and didn't think that people in white coats should take him away. He's batshit insane. I got on Lou about picking Notre Dame to win 10 games because of the Charlie Weis genius and, uh apparently some kind of awesome players on the team. Anonymous again disagrees with me, and although Mark May is an idiot they certainly will not be close to 10, or even 5 wins. To be completely fair, at least he signed it Hank.

> I think you're the one who's out of touch with reality! Lou Holtz was far from a "mediocre coach". He won one national championship and was absolutely cheated out of another in 1993. He's also a long way from 80 years old. Notre Dame will be a lot closer to 10 wins than the 5 that that idiot Mark May of ESPN predicts! Hank Gilday

Hank seems like a guy that would really be in the thralls of sufferage right now, and not the voting kind.

What's the lesson here? It's really two fold. First of all, I will never again overrate Notre Dame by calling them second rate. They might be the 4th best football program in their own state at this rate. And second of all, you do not fuck with Notre Dame or Lou Holtz, because completely unbiased and level headed fans will set you straight.

Don't forget the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology... 7-3 in the D-III Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) is nothing to sneeze at.

As bad as the Irish have been this year, they could be much worse.

Wait, WHAT? How could they have been much worse? They've won ONE GAME. And at that, it was against Jekyll and Hyde UCLA, a game they just as easily could have lost.

It could have been "worse." I don't know that it could be "much worse" because there's just no room. They've lost 9 games for the first time in their history. They lost to two service academies, they've lost 5 straight games at home, I can go on. Oh, and their best players are leaving the program, and big time alumni are ripping the coach. There's just not enough room for it being much worse. Worse I could see though.

I say the Indiana High School State Football champs play the Irish at the end of the year. ND will be favored by 1 point

Okay, as the ND fan here I got a couple of words...Notre Dame Sucks more than a call girl! Jimmy Clausen will be mentioned in the same breath as Ron Poulus! I give a shit if they have the "Number 1" recruiting class coming in...Um, wasn't the 2007 class highly ranked, um yes! I question Weis's teaching abilities...There's no way Navy and Air Force has more talent than the Irish has currently! Weis might be a great X's and O's coach, but college football also involves teaching...And it's fair to say he's failing at that! The team has shown little improvement over the course of the year...Doesn't matter how much talent he brings in if he can't teach!
